Reagan got his tax reform, and military budget with a democrat house and senate.

Yep....that was 60 years ago, not 50 or 20....It was the last time Republicans had a big enough majority in both houses of Congress and a Republican president and could get something done without being forced to compromise with Democrats.

I'll give reagan and clinton a pass on doing "compromise" correctly (mostly....what else does one expect)......however both droped the residual effect on others.....more specifically the cost of war on both (overseas and drugs)....
that, in effect, was nothing more than a continual resource drain.....
now cops are quitting and people are realizing there never was any war worth fighting..........who'd a fk'n thunk it?
godddammmed diptard conservatives

They had tiny majorities from 1953-1955. Last time with significant majorities before that was 1932.

For a sizable majority, you have to go all the way back to the last time the Republicans had a winning presidential ticket without a Bush or a Nixon.

irony.....
you think it's going to be different......
so do the others....
it's eerie how the puppies go woofy woofy and then learn how to bark.....
(and you thought you were being coy.......lmao)
Out of curiosity, where do you stand on the political situation as it stands today in the U.S.? If you think about it, one could actually make a reasonable argument that American Revolution and the resulting outcomes are an aberration in human history that is in the final death pangs, and that in the near future we will be back to a more traditional mode of human interaction based upon our inherited animal instincts, i.e. the idea of a hierarchy within a pack. I believe that despotism, monarchies and feudal systems are all extensions of the pack mentality for civilizations.
Are you of like mind or do you have more hope for the future than that? If I had to guess, I'd believe that you are a fatalist and believe so based upon the limitations of our biology.
....have stated this many times....
stop paying taxes en masse....somehow, the composite has to bear the burden.....aka consumption....
if that doesn't happen.....then your posit becomes the most inevitable outcome....
I'm not that smart.....however, I do only think en macro.....and it scares me too....

He's an outsider and sort of a strange and unlikeable individual.
I am torn between Trump and Cruz. I really, really like Cruz...however, he is an awful politician. He has alienated tons of people, including many conservatives. Running for POTUS is a team sport and you have to have a lot of people in your team and some whom are more centrist. I also am disappointed in his "dirty tricks" and this thing about Trump and mob is a sign of man in the last days of a desperate campaign.
Trump, on the other hand, has no record. I don't include his past because as a businessman, he had to grease both sides of the political machine. However, we are left to rely on those around him to let us know if he will be consistent and follow through.

you just defined the 'why'.....well done....
he is the best shot to begin the process of fixin' stuff....
it's the only thing I like about him.....he let's the smarter people do the work
again, one can only hope if he wins it, he hires some smart people and keeps his fk'n mouth shut....
I have a sneaky feeling he can do that if it come to fruition.....
one thing people need to realize, that guy is trying to win an election.....he isn't doing anything that so many in the past haven't done....
the only difference is he isn't a career politician......even Reagan was a governer after acting.....
do not underestimate the power of the donald......
