End of Season & Tournament Thoughts

I think Kitts and Cully were leaner and while they could block shots I am not sure they had the bulk of which I am thinking.
It's a paint game. Good teams are built this way. Very good teams combine the interior with the perimeter game and great teams are able to extend their perimeter defense. Defensive basketball starts down low, protecting the basket, and moves out. Teams attack us down low, we overcompensate or watch, and they add their perimeter shooting. This is how we lose. We win when we defend, and light it up. Dixon's injury has hurt us. Key question for future is. Why would a top flight post player want to play for Tribe?

Because even Sheldon is getting his points in this offense? Lots of screen and roll opportunities plus some post-up opportunities? The ball is in the hands of post players every trip down the court, and if we had a post player with a jumper or any kind of dribble drive (which presumably a top flight post player would have) then they'd have a chance to show that off every trip the other team played man. Getting the ball in the high post gives other teams less chance to double team or more chances to pad assist stats.

Well said, good points. But, playing in the post is first about defense.

No doubt, but we've had no shortage of good post defenders. Right now, Sheldon's our only plus defender, but Seacat is a freshman with a good frame for adding bulk. Sheldon's biggest strength is forcing opponents to catch the entry pass 5-10 feet out instead of under the basket. Traditionally, that seems like our main point of emphasis in post defense. For good offensive post players, catching it in the shadow of the hoop is basically a bucket. There are very few defenders that can get a stop from that position, and we haven't had a shot blocker in the post since Kitts, and only Cully before him. Sheldon, like Pete Stein before him, is all about position rather than shot prevention.
All of this is making me wonder why we have gone away from man defense. If Tarpey and Dixon are healthy, then Omar and Cohn get the weakest offensive players, Sheldon gets the post, Dixon gets the best guard and Tarpey the best forward or second best guard. Malinowski can hold his own on defense, especially against bench players, and Whitman/Seacat can do the same. Tot struggles with quick guards, but if you can get him on the floor with Dixon you can keep Tot off the quickest guard.

I'm not sure what you mean. He didn't honor himself with this, the CAA executive committee did this to show their appreciation for the longest tenured commissioner in division 1 athletics.
I think he's done an excellent job and deserves a token of appreciation.

We can agree to disagree to some extent. I do agree he should have gotten some kind of recognition and appreciation but naming the championship trophies after him? Seems like a bit too much to me.

Agreed, Tribal. For all that Mr Yeager has done to for the CAA he deserves to be honored

You guys just need to find that magic you had for the UNCW game in Williamsburg and you'll be the toughest out in Baltimore.

Very true, but The Tribe just may come out playing like they did against TU and Drexel which was quite awful

NO.
I don't think Hofstra will have to break a sweat.
Two ugly but entertaining games last night. Interesting to see the two old SoCon teams play.
I hate Delaware, football and hoops. Glad the hens got sent packing.

RE: End of Season & Tournament Thoughts
With Towson having a decent team and a chance to win , it will be interesting to see how many of their fans will be attending today.
The Tribe vs Dukes probably will have more fans attending than any other game since both schools have large amount of alumni in the greater DC/Baltimore area.
