RE: End of Season & Tournament Thoughts
Agree with NJ Alum that it's silly to think the players would be openly critical of the decision not to play. They just have more grace than that.

That being said, what I've learned suggests to me that this was a coaching decision. Admin, I think, would have supported Tony either way. And while I might personally differ, he gets the benefit of the doubt in my book, and I'm fine with it.

Regardless of how incredulous you may be, nj alum, it's not beyond belief that the players would be ready to be done with daily training room visits, practices, etc. after five solid months with few breaks. Also factor in health of the team... Daniel and Terry were definitely dealing with lingering issues, who knows if other players were able to play through issues.

I have no better insight than you do into the actual thoughts of the players or administration. Given that, can we stop making the same posts for 30 pages? I don't think anything new has been said for 25.

I think post 337 provided new information as to factors considered by another non P5 school. If you chose not to read it and / or didn't comprehend what was said, I can't help you.

I happen to think that this is a key issue for our basketball program. It's clearly a dilemma for a lot of non P5 schools. A new thread wasn't created ... Post 337 was put in this thread. If the subject no longer interests you, don't read the thread.

We're being asked to financially support a program that has turned down post-season opportunities two out of the last three years, despite putting up three straight 20 win seasons. They could have won two of this year's post-season tourneys (Vegas and CIT). It's an issue for me .... Now I'm repeating myself

:-)

RE: End of Season & Tournament Thoughts
You all are beating a dead horse.....Last year the CIT sent UNCW to play in a high school gym in Texas after they found out the host school normal gym was unavailable. Not sure what kind of "reward" that environment was for those players for their final College BB game as a senior!

Playing in post season does give the players additional experience but the hype about finally breaking the NCAA jinx this year and not doing made anything beyond the NIT anticlimactic IMO for the players. Spend the money on a great preseason Tournament this fall and I think both Tarpey and Sheldon would approve. Those who think the players will just restate the "party line" in private conversations underestimate the them.

let us move on.............

Have you bought your nonrefundable tickets for Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico?

Personally, I'm saving up my frequent flyer miles for when they start commercial flights to Mars. Maybe we can play in a preseason tournament there.

I am not a fan of the modern adage that if you can't beat 'em, keep lowering the bar until you're a winner.

Thankfully, the W&M AD doesn't appear to be riding that train either.

Our time is coming.

If you think playing in the CBI / CIT / Vegas after the NCAA and NIT said "no" to a twenty win team is lowering the bar, ... I don't know what to tell you. I don't think VCU several years ago, and Columbia this year, thought they were lowering the bar.

You're playing by the P5's rules, to the benefit of the P5, by staying home ... rather than adapting the Temple and GotRibe philosophy of playing anybody ... anywhere .... anytime.

W&M, and like-minded schools, should be in full revolt and competition against the P5, and should quit playing by the P5's rules.
