We have to fix that. We've got to figure out how to get more aliens among the Oscar voters.

Inside Out won best animated picture. Pete Docter is a genius.

I stopped like Chris Rock after he accused baseball of not employing black players in today's game. It is not baseball's fault that black athletes are graviting to other sports.

That is because they are (intentionally) all drunk at the Golden Golbes

Actually... yes I can believe it.

Man, there was NOTHING else on TV worth watching (I am not a Walking Dead fan).

That would have been a good line. White South African, but still African.

You'd be surprised how offended some get with that. I did with some loan applicants once, who were from Johannasburg, and I asked them if they were "African-American?" The look on their face, especially coming from me, told me that did not at all, find that the least bit funny.

My family has done some business in South Africa and, through rugby, I know a few white South Africans. A white South African wouldn't call themselves African to refer to their place within continent at large--they would call themselves South African because it's the demonym for the country. They'd call themselves Afrikaner in regards to their ethnicity.

Calling her African would probably offend her.

He didn't accuse baseball of not employing black players, he blamed American baseball for being too old an uptight about things, which may have slowly killed the interest among black kids.

NWA should have had a nomination in one of the main categories.

Straight out of compton

8/10 imdb

88% RT

Spotlight

8.2/10

93% RT

The Big Short

7.9/10

88% RT

Bridge of Spies

7.7/10

92% RT

The Martian

8.1/10

92% RT

Revenant

8.2/10

82% RT

Plus it had break out performances for a bunch of new actors which the academy normally loves. I'm not saying it's racism. It's probably the result of many of the voters saying "eh gangster rap I don't care about that topic" and didn't even watch it.

The academy folks are also looking at a little bit different things than the average viewer, or even the run-of-the-mill critic.

They like to keep the pretentious part of their trade in tact.

If we were just selecting the best movies in a year a lot of other things would have won.

Tommy Boy deserves an Oscar if we re going off pure enjoyment.

There's a fine line between general viewer and a movie that is in-line with the academy. the NWA movie clearly fit that bill. tommy boy is a total joke of a comparison. It's more in-line with the hangover or some low budget horror movie than an academy-caliber film.

You should watch it again, Tommy Boy, then because there is some flawless acting.

NWA was crap in my opinion.

All I was saying is that the Academy isn't picking movies based on what is good wholisticly. They are like fine art critics, they want to see in something what you and I do not.

If there are any movies nominated that I loved, I might watch more.

I prefer the Golden Globes anyhow. More casual, less stiff/pretentious. And Ricky Gervais rocks.

EW put out a list of ways to 'improve' the Golden Globes back in January. Putting "replace Ricky Gervais" number 4 immediately makes said list irrelevant IMO. He's the only reason to tune in to that show.

at the end of the day tommy boy is your traditional cringe comedy movie which is not going to fly with the academy because it just doesn't feel like art nor thought provoking, nor does it come with a whole lot of substance. I loved that movie but there's a clear difference.
