Shyts going to online streaming and will be easier to cut out the middleman. Times are changing. Plus it wouldn't surprise me if the bubble for network payouts pops before 2020.

I definitely think that the networks want to play wait and see. They'd be perfectly happy right now with the status quo. If they want to play with the realignment they will be a lot more certain of what they want by 2022 and won't be trapped by decisions they have to make today without complete information.

And for the record I think the bubble is popping already.

Or thinking along the same lines....Schools with large fan bases willing to pay for college sports/conference networks will become more valuable to conferences then schools in huge media markets...which would only make the SEC/BIG stronger

IMO, there will be a consolidation into a P4 and that will lead to all P4 schools having a conference network. That is the "cutting back" of the networks and it brings better games to put on TV to since conferences can do a simple P4 vs P4 for non-conference play in football.

Schools with small enrollment (aka small fanbases) will be pushed back.

I don't see any benefit to the SEC brining in Florida state unless they really got big like adding 10 acc school's to jump to 24 with 4 pods of 6. Same thing with OU, the last thing the sec needs is more football power school's in a 16 team setup. Looking at the big picture, I'm not sure it is in the best interest for the big 10 or SEC to expand and destroy another conference since they are doing so well in the present setup. How good is a great house if the neighborhood is crap?

If you are trying to work in the ala carte cordless space you have a tough battle to get past Netflix, Hulu, and HBO.

The space for TV shows and movies is going to be difficult to enter and without bundle viewers raving online about a Mad Men or a Walking Dead it is going to harder to get buzz for new shows.

Whether it is the Chicago Blackhawks or Kansas City Royals or USC Trojans sports has built in buzz.

Who is better positioned to take advantage than Disney?

You want to watch Duke basketball? Fine buy this online service and you also get Modern Family. Want to watch Texas football sure thing and you get ABC Family programming with it.

Cord cutting will drive the value of "premium" sports content higher. NBA, MLB, NFL, etc., will get paid very well. The most popular teams in college sports will get paid well though not as well as the most popular pro leagues. We don't know if everyone else in college sports will get paid well, or if they'll just get exposure without a financial windfall. And I'm skeptical about whether the teams who command the most a la carte money will share it equally with conference-mates.

The benefit is as a content multiplier. Add Florida State to the SEC and you just created 5 or 6 more must see games per season. More inventory means more revenue. Also locking down the state of Florida and providing SEC schools a second shot at playing there regularly would be huge as for as locking down a larger share of recruiting.

RE: What I Really Think Is Going to Happen in Realignment
If the G5, the ACC, the Big 12 play their cards right, they can get their own tv networks and thrive. The key is not playing into the SEC's and the Big Ten's hands. These conferences all have something to offer viewers: basketball, baseball, and hockey. I used to really despise basketball conferences like the Big East(and still do somewhat), but the makeup of the Sun Belt Conference under Wright Waters intrigued me. Here was a football conference with some programs that had no football teams, and they got along just fine. Why?, I wondered. Then it came to me: these programs were all working toward a common goal. Guys, the wave of the future is streaming and ala' carte tv. Football can only fill in so much. Men & women's basketball along with baseball and softball can help fill in the rest. Conferences need to play up their strengths. And tv loves "Davids" can take down "Goliaths". even if Goliath hates getting upended, for basketball and football.
