I really wonder about the basketball game officials
I'm probably going to regret starting this thread, but here goes...
I do not feel at all comfortable how the game officials are treating JT4.
Some are blaming JT4 for not playing with more composure, etc. but I'm not sure our officials are used to an aggressive, intense 6' 10" player in the MAC.
I believe he is a 'marked' man like Suh when he was with the Lions, although I'm not sure why.
I think the officials officials find him 'threatening' or 'menacing'?
I forgot the NBA player they used to say could look at the officials and get a T. I want to say Dennis Rodman, but it wasn't Dennis. There was a player about 20 years ago who looked 'menacing' and the officials could not deal with it. Any ideas of whom I'm thinking? Don't think it was Rasheed Wallace. Ron Artest?
Lot of it the OFFICIAL'S issues that they find it hard to relate to players like JT4 or his style of play. The MAC, both men and women, play very soft in the post. Officials are not used to a very physical game.
I once heard it said that one of Riley's problems was that he was used to an aggressive defender, body on body, in the post as part of how some centers learn to play the game. Then they get into the MAC, which I believe is physically soft, it messes up their game. They need the physical presence (resistance) of a defender to begin their post move.
As I posted on the main board, JT4 has not punched, kicked, etc. a player. He has not shoved, tossed a ball at an official, etc. yet he probably holds an EMU season player record for Ts.
What gives? He is a marked man...
I hate to use the 'R' word, but it might be in play here...

This may sound strange coming from someone who has been kick out of 22 games but it's not the officals. There is one that will kick me out if i say a word but hey you learn to deal with it. The court belongs to the refsand it has to be that way.ive reffed and know that you have to demand respect because you don6have time to earn it.

Has JT4 done things to deserve all of those Ts?
When I'm in town (not often), if I happen to attend a game which those refs from Sat. ref I may get tossed out of my first game...
I can understand the refs trying to SOLVE A PROBLEM but they seem to have a SOLUTION IN SEARCH OF A PROBLEM.
I've been watching MAC games as long as they've been webcast, etc. and I have not found physical altercations a problem.

I really wonder about the basketball game officials
It is a bizarre scenario when the team the got screwed by the refs in January (let's not forget that they admitted to butchering that game) seems to be the target of excessive officiating in the following game. It's like the refs read the rule book before the game and were determined to follow the letter of the law without any regard for things that normally involve a warning or a no-call. They were different and inconsistent with normal officiating - not that normal means good.
I think the MAC or NCAA needs to address poor officiating much like the NFL needs to fix theirs. I understand it's a very difficult job, but that's no excuse for what we've seen.

A grown man kicked out of 22 college games? You should be unbelievably proud of yourself.

The NCAA wanted to clean up some of the physicality of the game (so that the game would be higher scoring - they succeeded. BSU easily broke 100).
That said, I don't see this as comparable.
Quite frankly, I believe the refs are ruining a really, really good player by taking his game away from him.
Pardon the expression, but fans don't come to see the refs take over the game, they come to see players like JT4.

It's a mistake to excuse jts behavior and put the blame on the refs for his tantrums
sorry he needs to quit with the mouth and just let his playing do the talking

But five Ts, JT4 2, Murphy 1, Lee 1, and ? 1.
I've never seen 5 Ts in a college game before.
Sorry, '79, sounds like those refs had hyper-active whistles...

I think God was shining down on Ball State Saturday, but those Ts early just knocked the wind out of EMU. We valiantly tried to come back but the damage was done.
Can we get BSU in CLE?
