Blast from the past: Dr Allen Eggert
Yesterday I was at a lacrosse game between Bellaire and Emery/Weiner School, a Jewish-oriented college prep school on Stella Link. The athletic trainer at Emery/Weiner turns out to be Dr Allen Eggert, longtime head trainer and director of sports medicine at Rice.

Unfortunately, Allen was unusually busy in this particular game, as there were a couple of twisted ankles and one play where two players on the same team collided.

That's great. How old is Allen? Has to be well into his 70's now?

75 or so, it would seem. Allen (Rice '63) was 65 when he retired in 2006.

Here's a link to a 5-year-old article written a year after his start at Emery.

been there many an afternoon watching my grandkids play little league football/baseball/soccer. One of the oil barons in town donated the money to purchase the property within the school bounds and install all the fields (must be 25 different fields there). Weiner was actually in the oil biz.

Allen is one of our all time favorite Rice Owls. Great memories of him and Sadie during the 1994 season.
