I think you're pretty much right. I do believe it's significant that Haase's salary is comparable to other high mid-major coaching salaries. I also think CUSA will improve quite a bit by next year. There's a lot of young talent all across this league, there's a good mix of promising up and coming coaches and established veteran coaches, and there's a handful of program with winning traditions. Obviously there's better coaching jobs out there than UAB but I think we've proven that we're committed to being a quality program.

The meat and potatoes of his best recruiting class will be juniors next year. He said his wife loves birmingham and he likes raising a family here. As long as we can get organized and fork out the $ for him and basketball program following this successful season, I think he would stay. We need our attendance numbers to make a big jump to. Hopefully even with the crappy game times we can still have a big crowd for the CUSA tourny

I like to think Haase is like Mark Few at Gonzaga. He's been courted by the big boys for years but has stayed in Spokane and built a strong program.

Few doesn't have Washington State coming into his city and putting 16,000 people in an arena when he can't even fill his home arena occasionally. That lit a fire under Haase. I'm still not sure if it's a fire to stay here and make big things happen, or a fire that makes him say f it, I'm out.

RE: Coach Haase Incentives
UAB BBHC Haase has already had an effect upon the two state SEC programs. Both new BB coaches there have signaled an upgrade of BB ambitions at both schools, and we may see similar evidence at Troy and USA if the present BB coaches there don't succeed.
I suspect the list of BB programs that will tempt BBHC Haase to leave UAB is a short one and would likely carry a huge pay upgrade. With the improvements he has brought about at UAB, he won't be tempted by any lateral coaching move just for a little more money. Right now, he has a situation similar to that of Gene Bartow back in the late 1970s -- a chance to leave a permanent mark on what could become a nationally recognized BB team.

Drawing 7,190 for a 15-13 CUSA opponent is pretty respectable IMO given that we aren't ranked and aren't in the race for an at large bid. This UAB team is great and fun to watch and that's the reason all 7k+ people were there last night. We haven't been able to say that about a big home crowd in a long time. I love that our expectations have been adjusted to be somewhat disappointed with a 7k crowd. Just shows the improvements being made in the program.
Playing mid-day games in the CUSA tournament will hurt attendance, but if we can make to the championship Saturday, I expect 8-9k.
Saying there are 7k in attendance 3 times doesn't make another 2500 people magically have been there.
There might have been 7100 Tickets sold, but there we're only 5k people in the stands, max.
And you know Haase knows that number, or should.

RE: Coach Haase Incentives
I am content to let Coach Hasse worry about his future. I believe if he leaves, unlike some of our past coaches he will leave the program in good shape.
As a fan I selfishly want consistency in the coaching, recruiting, winning as well as improvement in all areas of the program.
Again, I trust this coaching staff to make sure UAB is better in all areas as they continue to retool this program.
UAB improvement is a matter of perception as so far as individuals sometimes focus on different aspects of the program.
Is the program stable.
Recruiting is it consistent.
Playing at a high level is imo stable for most part.
Scheduling needs improvement, but was good for this team.
Attendance improved.
Prospect for immediate future looks good.
So has the program improved under Hasse....based on what he inherited.....the answer is yes.

His speech after yesterday's game sure didn't sound like a man looking to leave.

Lord, why do we torture ourselves with this kind of speculation?
I don't know what Haase's long term plans are and neither do any of you. I'm just enjoying the ride.

is simple. if a bigger program offers a better opportunity and money we cant match he leaves. if not he stays.

Do I need to create a separate thread to talk about Mark Ingram's incentives?

Exactly. He sounded like he was rallying the troops for tournament attendance and challenging them to get better.
