RE: C-USA Indoor Track & Field Championships - Final Day
Just watched Cali Roper win the 3000, and it looked like Racasan finished third. Great effort!

Cali Roper is unreal. She just won the 3,000 meters, with Elsa Racasan coming from way back to get 3rd.
It's getting to the point that Cali might be considered to be on a very short list of the greatest distance runners in Rice history.

Rice men finish 7th with 41 points. But, the best Owl athlete, Scott Filip is out for 2016 (Tommy John surgery). Also, outdoors, we'll have the javelin (Evan Karakolis) and the steeplechase (multiple runners).

Going into the final event (4 x 400 meter relay), Rice women are in 2nd, 8 points out of 1st, but just 1 point out of 3rd. We are not good in this event.

Good effort by the women, especially when you consider they had zero points in 800 on down, hurdles and 4x400. Roper is very good but I'm not sure I'd put her #1 in Rice distance annals quite yet. Has she finished as an All-American in any distance events (not sure I think she has in cross country but not in indoor or outdoor track)? I know we've had quite a few through the years (Klassen, Jiskra, Roberson, Waite, Wade) so I think she needs a top 8 finish before she can be put in that group (although Jiskra was just one race so maybe the other four are on the Mount Rushmore of Rice distance runners for the time being?).

Great pole vault results: 1-2-4-7
Marielle Brisbois wins her 2nd championship, with McKenzie Johnson 2nd, Ayane Rosano 4th and Jaylon Wesley 7th.

I wouldn't put Cali at #1, either, but, as I wrote, she's on the short list of the greatest.

Good results for both. So Elsa Racasan took 3rd in the mile with an aggressive move (and barely lost, as both 1st and 2nd beat her by less than a second), and then comes back with a 3rd at the 3k. Tough day, and rewarding too.
Congrats to all.
