I think Kansas beat Oklahoma back when they were both in the Big 8.

edit - yep, 1988.

In 1985, 3 of the 4 teams in the Final Four were Big East Teams ('Nova, St. John's, Georgetown), along with Memphis State (Metro). I don't think that's happened since, and the field was smaller then.

Yea, it was the first and only time that's ever happened.

Also interesting, in 1976, 3 of the 4 Final Four participants were already or would eventually be Big Ten members. (Rutgers, Indiana and Michigan) UCLA was the 4th participant. Notably, it was the first time an all-conference championship game happened.

RE: Has there ever been an all-conference bball championship?
In 1985 with the Big East in the Final Four...

Villanova beat Memphis State in the early Saturday game that year.
That meant that at tip-off in the St John's vs Georgetown game, the final 3 teams were all Big East schools.

Also, Memphis State's Final Four in 85 was later vacated.

Also, I've mentioned this before, but in a game with a bunch of lead changes, Memphis State beat Gary Williams's Boston College team by 2 in the Sweet Sixteen game, so a reasonable path was in place for 4 Big East teams to have made the Final Four in 85 (if BC could've gotten past MSU).

Also, 5 ACC teams made the NCAA's in 1985... and amazingly, each of them was bounced by a Big East team (though Georgia Tech did bounce Syracuse that year). This is the point when the ACC developed their psychotic "Big East Envy".

BC beat Duke.
Villanova beat UNC and Maryland.
St John's beat NC State, and
Georgetown beat Georgia Tech.

Is it just me or is the term all-conference misleading or confusing.

Maybe a better term would be same-conference NCG.

It's like instead of calling something a same sex marriage, calling it an ALL sex marriage instead.. Does not make sense.

But words can easily lead to lots of confusion.

It wasn't really possible much before that. 1975 was the first year more than one team from a confernece could even be in the tournament.

Unless it's looked back upon in retrospect/hindsight or in other words by looking at current conference membership.
