RE: Spring Training!
Span playing CF and leading off tonight, so I'm assuming he's ok. Giants have the full lineup playing behind Cain. And the interesting thing is something I predicted might happen: Cain is batting 8th and Pagan 9th. As soon as we signed Span I thought there was a chance Bochy would bat the pitcher 8th (not just Bumgarner, but all of them) and tonight is evidence that it's something he will probably do on a somewhat consistent basis.

RE: Spring Training!
Nats lighting up Colon tonight in spring training action. 6 runs in 3 innings. For the spring now, Colon has given up 11 runs in 9.2 innings now this spring. Is the end here for Colon?

Span just hit a 2 run HR. Seems like that shoulder is ok.

And now he adds a triple. I know he's gonna get hurt at some point, but as long as he's healthy he's a major upgrade over what we had in CF last season

just got a breaking news thing on my phone that Pujols went deep twice... in the same inning. So he's going to be ready for the regular season.

Braves shortstop prospects Ozzie Albies and Dansby Swanson are said to be a bit ahead of projections, but still could benefit from some time in the minors, not to mention starting their arb clocks a bit later. But if a good haul good be obtained, Aybar is in the final year of his deal, and the Braves are not planning on contending this season, so why not? Or could they get more for Aybar at the trade deadline if they wait half a season?

I expect the Cards to sign ruben tejada

Good call - 1 yr, $1.5MM. Great signing.

Nice segue...
Dave Roberts confirmed today that Dodgers' first four starters are Kershaw, Kazmir, Maeda, and Wood. Battling for 5th starter are Bolsinger, Beachy, and Lee, and he hasn't yet ruled out Urias (that's a bit of a surprise). Wood had some forearm tenderness but he's pitching today so we'll see what he's got. They've got roster flexibility with the guys fighting it out, so with open days in the first month we should expect a lot of shuttling back and forth to the minors.

Urias has such massive potential - I worry about him being rushed but I know the team is concerned too so he must be having a great spring.

Got through the first inning with a K and 2 groundball singles, so I'd say his health is good enough

Is there a crossed fingers emoticon? Knocking wood? The plan is to get him to 60 pitches...

ETA: Box score shows first 4 innings, one run. No idea how many hits, Ks, BBs, etc. 5th inning melt down but, if he had a 60 pitch limit, that was either someone else or him getting tired. OK with either result. I think. (Kind of frustrating how little information is available w/o watching the games in Spring, but I get the reason why. I'm not supposed to make too much of this stuff. Which I probably would if I had it.)

He went 3, giving up 1, with 1 BB and 1 K. Seems solid enough

Good gravy! Dodgers 5th spot is a mess. Bolsinger had to skip a start (no reason yet), Beachy has elbow "tendinitis", and Lee has been optioned. Suddenly that great pitching depth is starting to look thin...

ETA: Bolsinger diagnosed with abdominal tightness, and Roberts referred to obliques. The initial thinking is a week? That's crazy - oblique injuries usually take significantly longer to recover from. This is getting ridiculous.

you're right. At this point I think that file almost deserves its own thread.

Saw Matt Moore pitched for the Rays today in the game in Cuba and had 6 scoreless innings. He's had a strong spring with 2 runs allowed in 16.1 ip with 14 k's. Could make the AL East a bit more interesting....

RE: Spring Training!
Nats winning today vs the Cards, a day after plastering the Yankees like 13-0...

Nats would go to 15-4 this spring. I do agree normally you take spring training results with a grain of salt- but remember how awful the Nats came out of the chutes last year- 7-13 first 20 games.. Well last year in spring training- only 11-16.

and it's who is doing the damage...
like today-
Michael Taylor 2 run double.
Jayson Werth double
Anthony Rendon 2 run double
Michael Taylor 2 run homer

and you say who did they do this against? How about Adam Wainwright for 4 runs, Seth Maness for 3 runs.

Also look at some of the averages this spring..
Zimmerman .269
Rendon .379
Taylor .500
Ramos .391

if the Nats get that production they're going to be dangerous this year.

Oh and Strasburg last night 6 innings- 9 k's scoreless. 3.21 era with 19 k's in 14 ip
Scherzer today 5 innings with 2 unearned runs, 9 k's. 1.38 spring era with 17 k's in 13 innings
Gio with a 2.77 spring ERA with 12 k's in 13 innings
Ross 2.79 era in 9.2 innings with 9 k's.
Roark 1.00 era in 9 innings with 5 k's

yeah the Nats pitching is going to be pretty good....

Rendon was having a kind of quiet spring but it looks like he's rounding into form recently. Really hope to see him keep that up. I assume he'll be hitting in front of Harper. Gonna score a lot of runs...

yeah I imagine the Nats will score plenty of runs if Michael Taylor hits .500

Question RE: Spring Training!
Well, now that we've got "The natural" (small "n") back on the MLB roster, things should start looking up, no?

Braves Add Jeff Francoeur To MLB Roster
By Jeff Todd | March 29, 2016 at 2:57pm CDT

The Braves have announced that outfielder Jeff Francoeur has made the Opening Day roster, with the team purchasing his contract. He’ll play a reserve role in his return to Atlanta, where he once featured as one of the most exciting young players in baseball.
