MAC Football Schedule Announced
http://mac-sports.com/news/2016/2/22/FB_...aspx?path=

As usual disgusted with non Saturday games in November but now we have non Saturday games in October without a Saturday bye in advance of it

And yet another epic UT WMU show down on Black Friday.

RE: MAC Football Schedule Announced
Ridiculous that Miami doesn't have a bye week for the second year in a row, unless you count the ten days between our last Saturday game and our senior night the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Other than that, I see 5 to 7 wins for us.

Sept. 3 (Sat.) @ Iowa
Sept. 10 (Sat.) vs. EASTERN ILLINOIS (Red Out/Band Day/Football Alumni Weekend)
Sept. 17 (Sat.) vs. WESTERN KENTUCKY (Homecoming/Faculty & Staff Appreciation)
Sept. 24 (Sat.) @ Cincinnati
Oct. 1 (Sat.) vs. OHIO (Family Weekend)
Oct. 8 (Sat.) @ Akron
Oct. 15 (Sat) vs. KENT STATE (Community Day)
Oct. 22 (Sat.) @ Bowling Green
Oct. 29 (Sat..) @ Eastern Michigan
Nov. 4 (Fri.) vs. CENTRAL MICHIGAN (Heroes Night)
Nov. 12 (Sat.) @ Buffalo
Nov. 22 (Tues.) vs. BALL STATE (Senior Night/Fan Appreciation)

Texas State and Gardner-Webb...not the most enticing opponents fans want to see. How come OU can never manage to bring in quality OOC opponents? It's been like this for years.

Kansas, Cincinnati, Iowa State and Marshall are all on the future home schedule.

In the recent past Pittsburgh, Minnesota, UConn, Iowa State, East Carolina, Marshall (3) have played in Peden.

So not sure NEVER is accurate.

The Texas State game should be fun... I'm not sure how talented they are, but it will be the Ohio Bobcats against the Texas State Bobcats.

Battle of the Bobcats!

To get to Athens you have to fly to Columbus then ride a bus for 90 minutes to a small but sold out stadium to play against a home team that is usually pretty solid. Not an attractive proposition.

Actually they can also charter in and out of Parkersburg which at most is 50 minutes or Rickenbacker on the far south side of Columbus. OU has chartered out of both. If memory serves the only time OU would typically use Port Columbus is when buying out a commercial flight. Highway access in and out of Athens is lights years ahead of what it use to be. Even now they are upgrading some of the exits between Columbus and Athens that speed it up. This past fall I left just north of downtown on a Saturday and it took me 70 minutes to get to the game. Oddly the slow down was in Hocking county for road construction.

At least Miami has only 1 midweek home game as the 11/4 is a Friday nite, that beats Tu or Wed. NIU has back to back midweek home games and only 4 Saturday home games. :(

MAC officials must enjoy screwing with NIU. Huskies last year had 3 conference home games in a row in october and this year have back to back midweek November home games.

Stop whining....

Ohio has only 4 Saturday home games. The Bobcats also play their last 4 games either on Tuesdays or Thursdays..

No one is actively trying to screw NIU...

Likewise Akron has its last 4 games on a Tuesday/Thursday this season. Last season the Zips only had 1 non Saturday game. Moral of the story is if you want to play on Saturdays, have a ****** program that the MAC/ESPN doesn't want to air. Once you start winning and winning becomes expected of you, ESPN wants to air your games.

Akron begged NOT to play Mid-Week Games last season due to attendance issues. Was not happening this year..

RE: MAC Football Schedule Announced
List of all non Saturday home games-

Opening Week
Thurs 9/1 CMU vs FBS

Final Week
Tues 11/22 Ohio v Akron
Tues 11/22 Miami v Ball St
Tues 11/22 EMU v CMU
Fri 11/25 BGSU v Buffalo
Fri 11/25 Kent St v NIU
Fri 11/25 WMU v Toledo

-------------------------------------------

Thurs 10/27 Buffalo v Akron
Thurs 10/27 Toledo v Ohio

Tues 11/1 NIU v BGSU (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Tues 11/1 Ball St v WMU (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Wed 11/2 Akron v Toledo (ESPN2)
Thurs 11/3 Ohio v Buffalo (CBS Sports)
Fri 11/4 Miami v CMU (CBS Sports)

Tues 11/8 Ball St v EMU (ESPN2/CBS Sports)
Tues 11/8 Kent St v WMU (ESPN2/CBS Sports)
Wed 11/9 Akron v BGSU (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Wed 11/9 NIU v Toledo (ESPN2/ESPNU)

Tues 11/15 BGSU v Kent St (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Tues 11/15 CMU v Ohio (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Wed 11/16 Toledo v Ball St (ESPN2/ESPNU)
Wed 11/16 EMU v NIU (ESPN2/ESPNU)

I separated the first and last weeks of the season because I don't think those count when talking about sacrifices made with mid-week MACtion. Can anyone really make a case that attendance would be significantly higher on the Saturday after Thanksgiving vs the Friday?

So what you have is 3 weeks of November #MACtion.

Week 1- MAC games on national television Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri.
Week 2- Standard Tues/Wed double headers.

An important improvement over the last couple of seasons is that all of the November MACtion games will be on either ESPN, ESPNU, or CBS Sports. No more ESPN News or worse- ESPN3 only.

Finally, here's a list of home games played by each team during November MACtion. Note that, once again, WMU avoids playing any home games on a weeknight, but still gets an equal share of the TV contract that comes from the success of MACtion. The schools that play the most weeknight games do so because that's what their program wants, not because the conference is dictating it.

2 Akron
2 Ball St
2 NIU
2 Toledo
1 BGSU
1 Buffalo
1 CMU
1 EMU
1 Kent St
1 Miami
1 Ohio
0 WMU

RE: MAC Football Schedule Announced
Guess it's true, the MAC is for the most part no longer looking to east but to the west and south.

4 MWC, 3 Sun Belt, 2 CUSA and 1 Indy, so no AAC or P5 home games.
Winning at home is always a good thing.

Quote:MAC Home Games vs. FBS Non-Conference opponents:
-Texas State (Sun Belt) at Ohio on Sept. 3;
-UNLV (Mountain West) at Central Michigan on Sept. 17;
-San Diego State (Mountain West) at NIU on Sept. 17;
-Fresno State (Mountain West) at Toledo on Sept. 17;
-Middle Tennessee (Conference USA) at Bowling Green on Sept. 17;
-Western Kentucky (Conference USA) at Miami on Sept. 17;
-Wyoming (Mountain West) at Eastern Michigan on Sept. 24;
-Georgia Southern (Sun Belt) at Western Michigan on Sept. 24;
-Appalachian State (Sun Belt) at Akron on Sept. 24;
-Army (Independent) at Buffalo on Sept. 24.

WMU's last two home games in 2015 were MACtion games (BG, Ball State).

FWIW I did find it surprising that we did not have at least one home November MACtion game in 2016. Your theory could be correct, but considering WMU's final five regular season games last season were midweek games (at EMU, BG, BSU, at NIU, at Toledo - make that four of the final five games if you don't want to count the Black Friday game in that group), maybe the MAC simply decided to ease up a bit on WMU in 2016.

P.J. has openly embraced the MACtion games as showcases for the program, so it would surprise me if WMU is suddenly asking the MAC to ease up. (That may - or may not - have been the case in the past. I'm not sure about that.)
