Section F needs a little help
Does anyone know the last time A a Rice player hit two triples in one game? Our section had several guesses (Crosby, Davis, Grit, and Rendon), but no actual knowledge. Help?

RE: Section F needs a little help
I remember Berkman hitting like 10 HRs in a game (yes, I'm exaggerating), but multiple triples? Sorry, this old memory isn't that good.

Your candidates are all good ones to check.

I will also add that JB Moss had 2 triples for the Aggies in their opener against Hofstra, so it does happen. Those SEC schools sure play some tough OOC competition. Maybe we should try opening against someone who has been able to practice outside since October?

I will also add that I had 3 triples in a Little League game close almost 50 years ago. Only because I was too slow to round the bases completely on a field with no outfield fence and not strong enough to get the ball all the way to the bayou behind centerfield.

If you get the correct answer, I will happily send you a fox hat. Looking for an answer here before Sully gives a public answer.

Edit: or a Parrot hat, if you prefer.

Bubba Crosby in '96 or '97. He holds the Rice career record with 20

Bubba did have a 2 triple game in 1997. He also had two homers, a double and a single. 6 for 6 with 8 RBI and a WAC record 17 total bases. Berkman also had two homers in that game. A week later Lance went 6-7 with 8 RBI.

I don't miss those bats, but I definitely dislike the current ones.

I wonder if Sully can confirm this was the latest 2 triple game by a a Rice Owl? Would you like a Fox or Parrot hat if Sully confirms?

I am hearing that Fuda might have had back to back triples, but over two games...

RE: Section F needs a little help
Unfortunately, individual triples per game is not a category in the Rice Baseball Fact Book.

Here's what they do have:

> On page 85, team triples per game:

5 vs. McNeese State (Feb. 14, 1997)
4 at Lamar (April 23, 1996)

> On page 92, individual triples per season:

11, Bubba Crosby (1997)
9, Charles Williams (1999)
8, Jason Gray (1999)
7, Chris Boni (1995)
7, Damon Thames (1998)
7, Matt Fox (1999)
7, Tyler Henley (2006)
6, Robert deLeeuw (1978)
6, Scott Johnson (1983)
6, Patrick Hallmark (1995)
6, Bubba Crosby (1996)
6, Will Ford (1997)
6, Damon Thames (1999)
6, Steven Sultzbaugh (2009)
6, Michael Fuda (2010)

And how about that start to the 1997 season that Bob Reinhold mentioned. Lance had a second 8-RBI game two days later:

Individual's RBIs per game:

10, Jose Cruz Jr. vs. Southwest Texas St. (Feb. 9, 1995)
9, Mike Fox at Texas Tech (March 22, 1985)
8, Eric Graff vs. Lamar (April 9, 1985)
8, Bubba Crosby vs. McNeese State (Feb. 14, 1997)
8, Lance Berkman vs. Cincinnati (Feb. 21, 1997)
8, Lance Berkman vs. Northwestern St. (Feb. 23, 1997)

8, Damon Thames vs. TCU (April 3, 1998)
8, Bubba Crosby at New Mexico (April 11, 1998)
8, Vincent Sinisi vs. Southwest Texas St. (March 3, 2002)
8, Anthony Rendon vs. California (March 13, 2010)

RE: Section F needs a little help
But a little more Googling led me to Riceowls.com and Thresher reports (p. 15 of the April 16, 2004, edition), that Josh Rodriguez hit two triples in the Owls's 9-2 win over Miami (Ohio) on April 10, 2004.

I don't know if this is the latest, but it's more recent than 1999.
