But considering the increased financial commitment, could we make it work?

Our student population continues to decrease (less athletic fees for the department) and the school itself is hurting for money in a state that can't pass a budget and has continued to give NIU less and less money each year.

As someone who lives in DFW...it would be great for me. Tulsa is less than four hours away and SMU is right here in the city.

I live in DC area. It would be great for me as well. I could make it to Navy, Temple, and ECU pretty easily. UConn is about 6.5 hours away too.

I would instantly buy basketball season tickets with that conference.

Houston's basketball game vs Memphis had 4,300 in attendance (couldn't find the attendance for their most recent home game). BYU's last home game vs University of San Diego had 16,300 in attendance.

BYU was ranked #66 for National Universities Rankings by US News. Houston was ranked #187.

BYU is a mormon school. It will hold them back no matter if that is right or not, because they won't compete in ANY sport on sundays. Makes it very hard to schedule.

I've heard the no Sunday games argument before. No one plays college football on Sundays. As for the other sports, is it really that hard to schedule games during the six other days a week?

NIU men's basketball will only play one Sunday game all season.

Baseball and softball play almost exclusively on weekends. Wrestling, tennis, track, and golf all have a lot of weekend and Sunday events as well. It's just an inconvenience that the conference might rather not deal with.

Three former MAC ADs (Tulsa, UCF, and ECU) in the AAC and a fourth transitioning out (UConn).

I'd rather not go to the AAC. It would be a step up, certainly, but the travel costs would be huge.

I'm sure the travel costs will be considered. If it makes sense from that standpoint then they will go.

Gotcha, I don't follow the Olympic sports. That's too bad because BYU would be a fine addition. They have a lot going for them.

Depending on who remains in the AAC this could be a big move up for NIU. If UCONN, ECU, Houston, Temple, ECU, Memphis, SMU, Navy & Cincy remain, or if the AAC invites Toledo to replace Cincy along with NIU. You have to go. UCONN, Temple & CIncy are hoops powerhouses and SMU soon will be (despite their year of probation this year) they have Larry Brown and Jancovik from ISU.

Navy is a draw in football, Temple has improved greatly in football, playing HOuston & SMU gets you exposure in the TEXAS recruiting market. That's alot of positives. If somehow Cincy remains or Toledo replaces them, even better

I'm 50/50 on whether it's the right call or not, but trust SF will figure it out.

I will say this, if you think there's even a small chance and an obvious desire to eventually be in a P5, you have to make this jump first. There's no path in without it, NIU has done as much growing as it can do with where it currently sits.

The AAC conference title game is played at the home stadium of the division winner with the better conference record. That would be really cool to have at Huskie Stadium.

Toledo is not on the radar, i can almost promise. They'd grab Buffalo first, even if I'd prefer our non-rivals joining us in the AAC to continue our non-rivalry with them

If anyone has the pipe dream of P5, this is where it starts and ends. It would be a tryout to see if fans welcome the change, new ones are created and if there is any increase in ratings for NIU in Chicago.

Like the NBA has a developmental league, it's a developmental conference. Not getting to B12 w/o a (short term) move.

The AAC = more money and no Tues/Wed games. The rest is all fluff.
