NIU contacted by the AAC
Tweet from @FigurelliSports:

NIU, W. Kentucky, S. Miss and La Tech have all been contacted by the AAC. S. Miss is the legit option that I know of

A tweet earlier from him:
Just had a 3rd party (SB nation) confirm what I said about S. Miss, NIU, Memphis, CSU and etc. more details to come from @SBNation & myself

Frazier knows a move like that would be suicide for the athletic department, he wont bite on this, not even worried at all.

Does anyone know what the conferences dishes out in money to each school? Also curious what kind of athletic budgets other schools in the AAC have

Poor Southern Miss hasn't been the same since they fired long time coach Jeff Bower.

LT is so up and down. They can't seem to consistently win.

Frazier will stay put I have complete confidence in him, just crap teams starting to fill the AAC, just stay where you are , better product and not breaking the bank travel budget wise.

RE: NIU contacted by the AAC
Sean should be glad to have the conversation. Whether or not this would be the right move, it will set some goals regarding financial costs and incentives for the future. The better bowls and some what higher payments from ESPN would be worth a discussion. I think they play on Fridays which would be a welcome relief from Tues,, Wed. I understand the increased travel costs might be offset by a larger piece of the pie from the AAC. This would not be a lateral move, it would be a move up in stature. This would be a move toward the upper tier of G-5 teams. We would have similar travel issues with the Mountain West conference. This is an excellent time to review a move. I think we probably are 10 years away from a P-5 invite, if ever. I know MD is against this potential move, but my gut says these opportunities are few and far between. It is also interesting that we are the only MAC team mentioned. I also think it would energize the fan base and encourage additional fund raising. This move would create a significant buzz and might kick start the stadium plans. I shall follow this with interest and anticipation. I welcome other views! We might consider football only to save on travel expenses for a period of 5 years, then a mutual review.

Most of NIU alumni have no clue what AAC stands for.
I bet most of us on this board cannot name 8 teams in the AAC.

Travel cost would be a bottomless pit. It is not just football, it is all of our sports teams. You can forget those bus rides to the AAC towns.

The MAC is a dead-end. Is there enough of an income difference to pay for the travel increase (is it really that much?)

Some of the "crap" teams[ MDs description] in the AAC are: Navy, U Conn, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, UCF,ECU,and Cinn. Our choice is stay in the MAC, or trust STF to review and make a decision on the only possible invite that NIU has had in the last few decades. I am not saying jump, but at least have the conversation.

It might be nice to talk, but I don't see the AAC needing to find another member anytime soon.

The AAC is miles above the MAC. Any chance to get in should be grabbed. Huge improvement in BB and FB. With this move, facilities upgrade jumps forward and school becomes more attractive to potential students.

Cincy and UConn are trying hard to get out of the AAC. Once they do, all you have left is a bunch of former CUSA schools. UConn would be a big loss for basketball (men's and women's) but probably a gain for that conference in terms of losing a football bottom-feeder.

I never understood the Tulane addition. There were better schools they could have added.

I was thinking about NIU moving to the AAC last night before I saw this thread. Specifically I was thinking about our women's basketball team losing by 150 to UConn. That would be fun. Honestly though getting in the AAC could make a lot of sense regardless of the drivel that MD is spewing.

Unless someone could be leaving and they need to lineup replacements. Or if they're thinking of going to 14 or 16 teams.

Houston and UC are gone if we do get the invite.

Then if UCONN gets left out I could see them going Indy.

If that happen then I'm not sure the TV money will be much different than it is with the MAC now. The upside is that we wouldn't be playing our best game on a Tues/We'd night in November.

Where is Houston going?

I doubt the Big 12 wants them. They already have four Texas schools.

Big 12 likely takes Cincy and one other school (probably BYU or UConn).

Cincy, UConn and Houston are all the most likely B12 candidates. BYU has fallen out of the picture for the most part.

That's too bad. BYU in terms of prestige and athletic prowess is much better than Houston.

I would add UCF over Houston. I think UCF has more potential and the Big 12 gets access to Florida. They already have the state of Texas well-covered. I don't see any benefit to them adding Houston.
