Most are cautiously optimistic about next season. There was a lot of hype for this one and it was a let down but next season has some strong talent coming in. But.. its nearly an entirely new team so not sure what will happen.
You guys will have a lot of depth to go with that offense next season too. Maybe the conf turns a corner next season!

What I seen wasn't a team. It was 5 individuals on the court at the same time with 5 different thoughts on what should be going on. And a coach that would rather coach each and every play as if it was a chess match and not a whole game. Jones looks as if he is coaching practice or better yet teaching 5 player on the court how to play basketball for the 1st time. If I was a recruit his slow down micromanaged game would def turn me off.

I'll say what I said on the ODU board earlier. ODU has some really talented players but as a team they remind me of Marshall from 2007-2013 under Donnie Jones and Tom Herrion. Everyone is out to "Get Their Own" and "TEAM" be damned. Maybe just maybe that changes next year when some of the player you have setting out becomes eligible. But as a player and recruit I would hate to micromanaged like Jones does.
Trey Freeman is extremely talented. Brandan Stith is very good and is likely to get better over the next couple of seasons. The list of ODU players that have earned the title of "really talented" for this season probably ends there.
As for the 2nd sentence highlighted above, you couldn't have been more incorrect if you had tried. Freeman shooting 20 - 30 times a game is by design and the rest of his team is fine with him doing that. It has been discussed on the Coach's Show and written about in the newspaper. Have you seen how everyone on the team is setting screen after screen for him trying to help him shake his defender. The coach has asked a couple of the guys to shoot and contribute more offensively, but they defer to Freeman and one or two others to score the brunt of the points.
ODU will be a very different team next season (later this year) with more height, length, quickness, and hopefully better shooting. They should be stronger defensively and a better rebounding team.

You have more than just Freeman and Stith. Bacote, Talley and Taylor could be really good if they weren't micromanaged on every play. Bacote especially.

RE: 8,250 watch Marshall beat ODU
I just want to give a shout out to the Marshall fans that showed up for their team. From the limited games I've been able to watch (damn you ASN) Marshall seems like one of the few teams we've played on the road that has actually had a decent crowd. I would love to see that more often.
Our Monarchs just can't seem to get it right this year. The Herd played a hell of a game and didn't let up. Good luck in Birmingham this year, hopefully we can get a rematch of the rematch and take you out

+1. Was sweet to view a packed house. Great for the conf if all our conf games got this much hype. Easy when you're winning obviously but still great regardless!

On the C-USA website under statistics. http://www.conferenceusa.com/sports/m-ba...fldrs.html
Man, we suck. We're only averaging 7383. Simply not good.

Birmingham may be the geographical center of the CUSA, but certainly not when measured on an avg.-home-attendance basis.
From a straight numbers standpoint, the tournament needs to move to the Charlotte -- with >4,000 avg. home attendance draws within a single day's drive for each of ODU (6953) , Marshall (5355), MTSU (5124). Charlotte (4654) and UAB (4602). [Sorry UTEP (7383). Your numbers are really good, but those of your "neighbors" are not.]
My hope is to see the tournament in Charlotte next year.

The tourney will be in Biloxi where there's actually something to do if you only there to support your school. If a family (and that's what CUSA needs) is going to take vacation time for a basketball tourney it needs to be in city with good weather (warm) have a ocean/beach (even if they are some of the worse on the gulf) fishing, golf, casinos, shows and if it's nightlife you are after a short jump over to New Orleans.
Till we can get the families 500 to 1000 will be the average unless the home team is playing

Next year's tournament location will likely be voted on at "Spring" meetings in early May. Expect to take a big financial hit there as well since new rules state host team no longer gets preferred evening slots. I suppose $600,000-$800,000 isn't all that much when split 14 ways.

RE: 8,250 watch Marshall beat ODU
The host city will be determined by bid dollars... as it has been the case. If you want it hosted in X city, you had better hope that city puts up the best bid financially. CUSA has for years made the decision regarding host based primarily on dollars offered to the conference. That is followed closely by attendance and ease of access. Having at least 2 arenas for men's and women's events is also problematic for some potential hosts. Some cities in this conference may have good support but when you are in the extremes of the geographical reach of the conference or if you are in a location that does have at least a reasonably sized airport, you are out of luck in terms of likelihood of hosting.
I would agree Charlotte and Nashville are other viable alternatives to Birmingham, and I have been one who had advocated some rotation among those 3 cities. The first question is whether or not those cities would put in large enough bids. Nashville is often problematic because the SEC tournament is often there that same week and therefore don't want to be competing with them in terms of hotel space and securing arenas for both men's and women's games. I don't think neutral sites (New Orleans, Biloxi, Atlanta, Memphis, etc) will be a possibility for this league any time soon.

I would be against that as a geographical outlier. The same as I was for UTEP hosting it on the border of the conference. We don't have the hospitality infrastructure for that, hotels etc. There is fuckall to do here outside the tournament. Airport is terrible for West teams' fans to get here. Just a really bad idea. It worked for MAC football because all teams could drive here and we were the only ones with any attendance to speak of at the time and it was only one other team we were hosting for one game. But it would not work for CUSA basketball. Too many teams too far away for too many days.

With ODU, WKU, Charlotte and MTSU now in the league, we are no longer a geographical outlier.
If you can get to Charlotte, you can get to Huntington via air travel.
We have something like, 8-10 hotels that could host multiple teams and fans, that are all business-class. Three Hampton Inn's within 25 miles, for example. Quite a few more that are similar to them. That doesn't even include Ashland, Ky., and before you mention distance, the team hotel in Tulsa was further from the arena than Ashland (or Teays Valley) is to Huntington. My point is, there are more than you'd think. You just have to be a little creative.
There is as much to do in Huntington as there is anywhere else for a week where basketball is the focus.
You're kidding yourself if you think more than 50 people travel with most league teams to the conference tournament. This area handles a state wrestling tournament that would draw similar numbers over a 3-day period. We also host a Region I soccer tournament that brings 10,000 plus people in each summer. We can handle the conference tournaments.
