Marcus Thornton
The Sydney Kings wrapped up their season last week, at 6-22 they obviously did not qualify for the NBL playoffs. Marcus played in all 28 of the Kings' games and started 27 of them, averaging a little over 29 minutes per game (NBL has 4 10 minute quarters). Unfortunately his shooting stats were not that great - 38% on field goals and 28% on 3 point shots, though he did shoot 86% from the charity stripe.

The Celtics' D-league team, the Maine Red Claws, continue play until early April, so hopefully Marcus gets some more playing time with them in the next month.

RE: Marcus Thornton
This makes me sad. I feel like Marcus should shoot better than that.

RE: Marcus Thornton
The big question on Marcus was his strength and physicality. From what I could determine this league was pretty rough and tumble with a lot of older Australian hacks. My guess is that had a lot to do with it.

Who knew Australian basketball was played in the Thunderdome.

I wonder if Thorton needs to know the way home.

RE: Marcus Thornton
I have been following Marcus on and off throughout the year hoping he'd make a big splash. In the end, I think his season was mixed - he had a good start to the season, but as the year progressed, he hit a slump and ended up shooting/playing below expectations. I know at one point in the year, he was one of the top scorers in the league. By the end of the season, he dropped off quite a bit, but still think he ended up in the top 25 in scoring. His team also got a new coach during the year who called into question Marcus's non-scoring abilities, such as rebounding and assists, saying he needed to contribute more to the team than scoring. Not sure if the article I read on this just blew this out of proportion or if it was a more serious issue for him. Based on BT's comment, looks like he's reporting to the Red Claws this week. I hope that goes well for him! Would love to see him on the floor for an NBA team someday. One of Marcus's greatest strengths is his hard work ethic and ability to improve in the off season (something he seemed to do every year at WM). I'm hoping he can work out the kinks this off season and come back stronger next year.

RE: Marcus Thornton
Thornton got his first playing time with the Red Claws on Saturday - 7 pts in 15 minutes on 3-5 shooting, including making his only attempt from beyond the arc. Also had 3 assists. Obviously a very limited sample, but it's nice to see a good, albeit small, first step in the D-League.

Also of note - the Red Claws play again today, but then don't have another game until Thursday. I don't know what schedules look like for D-League players, but I wonder if he'll be in the house Monday night if we beat Hofstra...

Both of Marcus's parents were at the game yesterday.

I can't fathom the shape he's in. Try playing pro ball basically all calendar year on opposite sides of earth. I get tired driving 2 hrs to W'burg and back.

RE: Marcus Thornton
Thornton seems to not be getting many minutes. Celtics went crazy with draft picks last year and this year, so it's going to be very hard to make the roster. Would love to see him get traded somewhere else.

As luck would have it, we will be in Vegas again while Marcus is there. Not sure if we will make it to the Cox Pavilion like we did last year.
