I left after 6. It was just too slow and painful to watch.
The Wildcats came to play. They are excited, loud, and eager.
The Owls came to watch Arizona play.
Sigh

Inauspicious first game of the season.
Arizona was "up". The whole game. Rice, not so much.
But, it's just the first game. Long way to go.
Looking forward to tomorrow and evening up the series.

they semed flat to me - ready to play, technically, and played hard, but no spark, no pizzazz, no rahrah. Never did wake up.
I Presume Graham will have them awake for tomorrow.

Yeah, pretty ugly opening game. 14 free passes surrendered by our pitchers, coupled with 3 costly errors, is not a recipe for success. Yes, the home plate umpire was gawd awful, but we can't use that as an excuse for this totally listless performance. Arizona didn't exactly hit the cover off the ball either-- of their 6 hits, at least one should have been ruled an error, and four of the other five were either of the infield variety or seeing eye just barely through the infield. You simply cannot give the opposition that many free opportunities and additional ABs and hope to survive. our offense was pretty offensive, especially given their pitcher had a fastball that topped out at 86 MPH and a breaking ball that had very little (and not very sharp) break to it. He may have been locating his pitches well, but we had VERY poor quality at bats, save for a single handful.
The only two positives was Gray's no doubter and the debut of Zach Esquivel, who I've heard is likely to be one of our mid-week guys. He reminded me very much of Austin Kubitza, with good movement on his fastball (albeit topping out at only 86 -87 vs. Austin's 90 - 92 MPH) and an exceptional, very late and sharp breaking spiked curveball. He's going to be fun to watch.
Tomorrow is another day....and it better be a better one.

Greenspan doomed us. Since then everything has been so much better.

From my seats I couldn't tell if batter would have been out with a good throw. Anyone have a better view?
