AAC Tourn in 2017 moved from Orlando to Hartford, UPDATE 2018 site selected
After City of Orlando/Amway Center bid in April 2014 and won the AAC 2016 and 2017 AAC Tourn...they also won 7 months later the NCAA 2017 1st/2nd Round games March 2017 as well.

It was announced yesterday that the AAC March 2017 Tourn will be moved to Hartford's XL Center.

2018 and 2019 rights are still available.

Since the Fifth Third Bank Arena will finally be renovated by FAll 2018, if UC bids on AAC 2019, it will easily win...and would probably be a big tix seller for Year 1 of the new building.

For 2018 AAC Tourn, I think it would be cool if the Tourn was played in Philly at one of the most historic basketball arenas around, The Palestra...as TV Partner ESPN would probably eat it up as well.

This is BS IMO. If anything, tournament should be on a neutral court somewhere centrally located for the fans and schools.

In theory, yes. Not in the AAC.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's as decentralized a location as we can get, and just adds up to more home games for UCONN. Very few fans outside the state of Connecticut will make the long, miserable voyage to freezing Hartford in March.

Orlando is also a very decentralized location, but at least it will be warm and attractive to visiting fans. I'm glad I'm choosing this year to go to the AAC tournament, I sure as heck won't be going to any more in Hartford. Been there, it sucks for everyone but UCONN.

This tourn does not have the draw to be placed in a "neutral" (non-AAC) location...and even in some AAC cities, college AAC basketball draws flies (New Orleans, Houston, Tampa, Orlando, etc...).

Only in a few AAC cities that have STRONG local fan support can this tournament be successful...which is why Cinci would be a great location when the arena will be renovated for the March 2019 tournament.

Most AAC Hoop teams have problems drawing fans to their home games when students/fans/alumni live right there...let alone trying to get some fans to "fly" to a location for a tournament many teams won't have a chance to win or sometimes even advance.

The only reason the AAC gave the 2017 and the 2018 to the City of Orlando is because they use their public arena/stadiums as loss leaders...as everyone knows the attendance will be weak...but the AAC is getting paid.

IF the AAC felt UConn is going anywhere, they wouldn't move the tournament to Hartford.

Means nothing as to UConn leaving. They cannot go likely before 2018.

If they were leaving but still around in 2018, I can't see the conference doing them any favors like giving them home court advantage in the tournament.

AAC Announced yesterday that the 2018 will be held back in Orlando at the Magic's Amway Center...while officially announcing that the 2017 Tourn will be in Hartford (which was already known).

http://theamerican.org/news/2016/3/3/MBB...61550.aspx

Still think UC's renovated arena would be a great location for conf tourn (along with the historic Palestra) so maybe UC can host in 2019 or 2020.

I can. Conference tournaments are all about the dollars. UCONN is the biggest tradition program in the basketball poor AAC and will sell tons of tickets to their faithful followers, generating revenue for a cash starved conference.

Everyone loves to visit New Orleans, but given the choice between flying there or flying to an NCAA Second Round the following week, as a fan I would always prefer spending my money on the big show. And I don't think we could count on Tulane to sell out the conference tournament as the host school.

AAC Tournament was in Hartford last year...and UCONN did not sell "tons of tickets to their faithful followers".

Here's how the "announced" attendance was for last year's AAC Tournament at the XL Center in Hartford:
