Houston's new $20M practice facility linked to buyout of Tom Herman's contract
http://www.chron.com/sports/cougars/arti...840527.php

Quote:If a plan for the facility is not approved by Sept. 1, Herman's buyout decreases 25 percent from $2.5 million to $1.875 million. The buyout decreases as much as 75 percent if the facility is not at or near completion by December 2018.

$20 Million practice facility, along with renovating their basketball arena certainly a good push in trying to get into a P5 conference. Quite interesting though to have the facility linked to a coach's contract. Even at that, $2.5M is nothing if either A&M or UT come calling at the end of next season.

RE: Houston's new $20M practice facility linked to buyout of Tom Herman's contract
A few weeks ago, we put the design job for the indoor football practice facility out to bid. The selection process is underway.

Yesterday, the board authorized Dr. Khator to spend $1.6M to hire the architect/engineer.

UH has a scheduled regents meeting on August 25, 2016. I anticipate the rest of the project will be approved at this meeting in order to comply with Coach Herman's contract. All that's left is raising the rest of the money.

Is this a two-way street? What happens if Hermann is poached before UH breaks ground?

Then the next guy will want it in HIS contract that the facility get built, so he can use it on the recruiting trail, so that he can string together some 10 win seasons and use UH as a steppingstone to an SEC/Big 12 job.....

lol...pretty much. Having new dorms, a new stadium, and a state of the art new indoor practice facility with a dedicated football only weight room will help recruiting regardless of who coaches there. Its an investment aimed at creating a sustained high level of performance on the field. The idea is to have the facilities that attract the best up and coming coaches and the highest quality recruits possible.

Bingo ^^^ 04-cheers

Herman is an exceptional head coach, no reason why he won't be pursued again. My ... As for Houston, we will land another great HC and he will take over what Herman got rolling with 3-5 * recruits still signing here.
