Interesting that TyRae Thornton, Rice's first 2017 commit, attends Cypress Ridge. That is the same school as two of Rice's 2016 commits, D'Angelo Ellis and Dasharm Newsome (both CB's). I imagine the coaching staff got a ton of looks at him when they were checking out Ellis and Newsome. Apparently his committment shouldn't be a complete surprise since he hinted at it a few months ago.

Is he a commit, or has he just been offered a scholarship? I hope we got him. He looks like a good player, and he has been "offered" by Duke and Kansas State as well.

With the last 3 years of recruiting, looks like we are really trying to address the secondary problem. We need that disruptive pass rush however to ensure that growth and success is forthcoming.

This makes me happy. 2017 will be a rebuilding year. Talent will help.

Of note however, is that he level of interest is " cool, low, and medium" perthe recruiting sites. Makes me wonder if they can keep him if he gets other offers.

Yeah. That's why I asked if he was really committed. According to Twitter, he is. I hope we keep him.

it's encouraging that two P5 teams have offered and he's still committed to us.

At this early juncture, I don't think that's a big deal. Now, if he doesn't have any other offers come August, maybe then when can question it.

I am just correcting what a few other posters wrote, not saying anything about what it means he has two good friends that just committed to Rice, maybe he never gets a P5 offer because other schools know he is a firm commit. Maybe he never gets a P5 based on talent. So many variables and we do not know any of them.
