RE: Spring Football
A few players we haven't discussed:

Turner at RB any impact this year?

Calderon and Hoying at DB-I believe Calderon got a medical redshirt and Hoying is getting back from injury.

Crosby and Andrews DL-?

And a whole slew of redshirted TEs-Kemp, Kilby, Annee and Girodat any position changes?

Eriksen & Turner battling it out for backup RB role.

Calderon and Hoying probable safety starters if Hoying 100% healthy. Calhoun should come in and immediately push these guys if he can pick up the defense. The 4-2-5 is a fairly complicated defense to implement so it'll be interesting to see how it all comes together in Spring ball.

Crosby was Scout team defensive MVP and likely in 2 deep rotation. Andrews buried on depth chart with King. Dillon still an enigma, injured?

Kemp the best of the bunch.

Exactly! Hopefully our injury problems from last year revert back to the mean, and we avoid the same issues this year.

Definitely rooting for Roback, although live game pressure is the only thing that will determine whether or not he's mentally prepared to eliminate the turnovers.

More help on the DLine, as there may be an OLineman making the switch. Stay tuned.

Ike Spearman coming back healthy could be a big boost to solidifying the MLB position.

Guessing Hendricks? I know he played DL in high school.

Hendricks also played a lot of scout team D last season. Good size for a d end.

Inside D tackle along with Mclean. Way too slow for outside. Mclean should be good at the inside 3 technique. Hendricks was a State Champ wrestler and power lifter who should be an unmovable force inside. Can play both the 1 & 3 techniques.

The added size inside, actual depth, 4 man front, plus new DC, should improve the run D dramatically. A healthy OC and Harris, plus the addition of Crosby, should improve the pass rush without having to blitz a ton, which should help protect the back 7.

Will be very interesting to see how the starting corners and safeties shake out.

I remember seeing Hendricks as one of the scout team players of the week on defense last year. Wonder if some of the D linemen will be able to put on some weight. We have had an undersized line in recent years, even OC was playing on the inside a little in 2014. A full year working with coach McKeefery should make a big difference in adding strength for guys like Crosby, Figueroa and Dillon. I would imagine coaches would want Crosby to get into the 240s up from listed 223. Figueroa adding some muscle mass may put him around 290. Wonder how Powell and Dunlap fit into the new four man front?

The front 4 will definitely be bigger. Powell & Dunlap could be falling down the depth chart with Brown, Mclean, Figueroa and Smith on the inside.

Maclean is going to be inside? Seems better suited as an end, unless they really bulk him up. I'm assuming Harris or Keels will start opposite O'Connor then?

Maclean is fine for a 3-4 DE, but too big and slow for 4-3. I bet he shows up about 280 and fits the inside 3 technique rush DT perfectly.

Assume Harris & O'Connor are starting DE's, unless Keels comes in and really impresses.

Keels is a total crap shoot. There is a reason he is a 5th year transfer to EMU. In 4 years, he has really never proven anything on the field, where it counts.

2011 - Highly touted out of high school, ends up at North Dakota College of Science (?) and ends up on medical redshirt.
2012 - transfers to Rochester College, 12.5 sacks.
2013 - transfers to Highland Community College. Highly rated 4 star again, after tallying a whopping 20 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 9 games.
2014 - 3rd transfer to Nebraska for his shot at the big time. Plays in 5 games but only produces 1 tackle.
2015 - Nebraska Sr. year shoulder injury, doesn't see the field the entire year.
2016 - 4th transfer to EMU

Hopefully he doesn't show up with an attitude, and finally plays up to the expectations that have followed him for 5 years. Went to Nebraska listed at 6'4" and 280 lbs, but listed at 6'3' and 265 lbs on their Senior roster. His highlights show him playing both inside and outside. Depending on his actual size and weight at EMU, could play inside 3 technique, or outside.

Either way, more size and talent for the DLine. Just wouldn't expect an immediate starter until he actually shows something on the field once he suits up in green and white. If he comes in expecting to be the starter, and isn't, could be a locker room problem. Hopefully he's just a good, hardworking kid, willing to go all out for his last opportunity.

Good points. There are many, many players transferring from P5 conferences who even though their bio says 'P5' are not P5 caliber. Some are just plain recruiting mistakes and they live off of the bio and not what they've done in college.

We'll see. Just hope he comes here and busts his butt and proves himself.

The indoor practice facility has been inflated for months now, I'd assume that it is functioning. But I really don't know. Maybe super can give us some information on it.

All the off-season conditioning photos that have been posted have been outside or at the Rec/IM so the Bubble might not be fully functional yet.

I believe I read in the athletic minutes that '79 posted that the IPF isn't being used yet...

Yeah not sure what the deal is there. They found new tears again and were working on fixing them but that was well over a month ago. In the meantime all conditioning has been outside, or when real cold they were bussing them 25mins north to an indoor athletic center. Anyone know what's going on with the bubble?

RE: Spring Football
New DLine coach has been hired. Likely to be announced next week when Spring ball kicks off. Don't think I should give up the name prior to Creighton making the announcement.

Suffice it to say, he seems like a great hire. Highly qualified, as a DC himself at more than one P5 school. NFL player, and NFL asst. coach. Also a Michigan native.

Let the guessing begin! Haha

Stay tuned!

Damn, "Bullough" is as famous a name as there is in MSU annals.

What relationship is "Chuck" to all of the other "Bullough"s???

Man, I'm saying "Bullough" and thinking of Phil Snow. Is he the 2nd coming of Phil Snow???
