When it's all done, I bet you'll be able to make a strong argument that any of the bubble teams would have won more games than us if they played our schedule

Bingo. And the bottom line is you cannot reward any team for putting together the schedule we have. Period. The wins are nice, and it's good to see Haase won't be .500 again, but next year and the year after we need to beat some real teams.

Murray State won 29 games last year and went to the NIT because they lost by 1 point to Belmont in the OVC Championship Game

I was the cheerleader for this argument last weekend. I'd say .01% chance at this point. Winning out and losing in the final would put us at 28-5 with a bunch of meh wins. The 29 win mark would have yielded more conversation and possibilities.

There are 31 teams ahead of us for an At Large bid on Warren Nolan's Nitty Gritty report.

Nope

Coach Hasse choice not to get an at large bid when he put together a OOC Strength of schedule of around 300 while knowing how weak CUSA is

But at least kept his pride 05-stirthepot By not taking any 2 for 1s or playing any top 50s on the road

That's not true. He thought Stephen F. Austin and Illinois State would be a good RPI game and thought we would get Iowa State in the Niceville tournament. He had no way of knowing the conference would suck as bad as it does. I believe he put together a schedule that under the right circumstances could have resulted in an at large bid. It didn't happen, but it was not his "choice"

Georgia state was a good addition too. Nothing worked out, sometimes that happens. I'm hoping after is year we won't see any ooc games except the in state games against 200+ rpi teams(perennially) on the schedule. Our Margin for error is razor thin, our schedule needs to be up to snuff.(odu had a great ooc schedule and record last year, and our crappy conference prevented them from getting an at large)

if we dramatically upgrade the schedule, and have 5 bad losses, we're not getting an at large bid next year either

29 wins wouldn't have changed a thing. There is no difference between 28 meh wins and 29 meh wins. A bad resume is a bad resume. 5 bad losses and no good wins means no at-large possibilities period.

SFA has won twelve straight games since losing at Bartow Arena on Dec. 29th. Pomeroy has SFA rated 83rd, which is by far the highest rated team UAB has played this season. VCU is second rated at 109th.

OK - I will agree if SFA, Ill ST and Ga State etc were actually had been top 100 teams OOC SOS mathematically might have been up to 250 or so.

A few years ago - UAT (power 5) team was denied the dance for playing 5 cupcakes (RPI 150+). We have played over 20 cup cakes this year. 9 OOC which we need to replace almost all of them with better teams if we want to go to the dance other than winning CUSA

IMHO the best way I know to improve our RPI enough and to replace that many games is by 2 for 1s and "buy" games and which also could approve attendance. Hasse appears to be to be insulted by scheduling beneath his ideal image of UAB. Hasse and the rest of us need to face it USA Troy and even Samford are in better conferences than CUSA - for at least this year.

I totally agree with the last part of your statement. There's nothing holding us back from taking buy games and 2 for 1s or 3 for 1s. Even if our "nice" OOC additions had panned out this year, we'd only be talking about an SOS around 200 (at best) vs. over 300 - aka still not up to snuff. I could care less about this talk about pride and whatever else. We have to do something fairly drastic to make up for how bad our conference is..

We won on a last-second 3 by Smallwood.

Not sure how many season tickets we can sell for eight conference home games and two home non-conference.

A scheduling alliance with other conferences, where our 1 and 2 play their 1 and 2 home and home (two games total for each school) and on down the line would be helpful. Two of those agreements give us four solid RPI games, home and home (though it does mean four bottom-feeder games for each of our bottom feeders).
