Well it'll be on TV then and not at the game. Nobody goes to the Cell, not even white sox fans

RE: UT @ NIU Football @ US Cellular Field
How can the stadium authority make money on this game?

Sadly, a MAC game, even a good one, could be a money loser at a pro venue because of expenses.

If 25K people paid say 40 bucks a ticket then it is a big money winner.

But if 15K pay 25 bucks per ticket, that doesn't compute.

I assume the game will be early November and on a SATURDAY AFTERNOON!!

This is one case where I agree with fans of NIU, etc. and I'm paraphrasing Bernie, "Enough is enough". NIU should be able to play that game ON SATURDAY and not be forced to play it on a week night because of television.

Is this a 'marketing experiment' dreamt up a business school?

Will fans come to Chicago, mid-week, November for a desirable football game????

What will it draw? 10K, 20K, 30K?

Will any students come? What 60 miles from campus.

The idea is that we have 145k alums within the Chicago Metro area and they claim they cant go to the MACtion game in DeKalb so our AD is taking a chance.

The odd thing is the dates for our home games leaked on Ticketmaster and our last game at Huskie Stadium is 10/22. Now its been expected that work on our skybox structure needs to start soon so it is done by the 2018 season when we host Utah so that may be the real reason for this to be happening.

So actually it is, in effect, an experiment.

The hypothesis is that the Chicago Metro area will support a week night game in CHI.

And it will be tested. Let's hope the weather is good so the test will be valid.

If the game's attendance is above 8,764 then that is better then the average of the past 2 years worth of Nov MACtion games at Huskie Stadium...so really the bar to qualify this as a success is very low.

But there is little (marginal) cost to playing a game at Huskie Stadium.

I wouldn't be surprised if a game at a pro stadium might not be say 200K? (I forgot what it cost EMU to rent Ford Field say a dozen years ago for a few FB games, e.g., Northwestern, CMU).

NIU had to pay Soldier Field around $750k to play there.

I bet that our fee is going to be very low. They will get to keep the parking and concession money but shouldn't be more then that. 2 of the 3 guys on the board who control the Cell are NIU alums. One of them was on the NIU BOT for 15 years and the other is Jeff Yordon...

We should take the average attendance of the games against Toledo for the past few years, at least. So the bar is a little higher than 8,764, plus this game will probably cost more.

I bet a few more Toledo fans will make the trek as its easier to stay in Chicago and go to the game then out to Dekalb. I've been to the last two Toledo-NIU games at HS and thought there were around 100 Rocket fans. I could see potentially a higher number.

Itd be a fun atmosphere if the band came and maybe bused 200-500 students to create a real big game between the two. Could be fun.

When I heard the term 'Greedy Bastards' I never thought they were talking about the folks who run Soldier Field.

I thought I heard a dozen years ago the rental of Ford Field by EMU (for the Northwestern FB game) was something like 200K+.

Doubt it, just the usual diehards like myself, and families of players. If it were on a Saturday, I think it would make a bigger difference.
