Toledo makes sense, I would imagine we have a decent list of alums living in the area. NIU can get a measure if their attendance difficulties have to do with lack of attraction or alums and fans not wanting to drive to Dekalb.

Should be a lot cheaper than Soldier Field. Also, we've played Iowa there a few times plus Wisconsin, kind of a "been there, done that" thing, IMO.

Personally, I'd rather they played at Huskie stadium. The people in Chicago aren't going to suddenly start going to games in DeKalb as a result of this game (at least they haven't after previous games in Chicago). Not with so many games that are not on Saturday. But it will be a test of the fanbase in Chicago, as to whether they will show up.

Will NIU make enough at the gate of US Cellular to make up for renting the stadium and such? I mean... Attendance will go from 10k at home home, to whats the projection for US C?

I know its no Orange Bowl, but this could potentially be a fun game. It could also potentially be a massive dud.

I'll be there regardless. :)

yeah the OB was a very different animal. This is just a conference game at a place that's not designed for football, has no "history" (like wrigley does), on a weeknight, in the cold in November.

*I'n in no way saying this would be better in wrigley, just pointing out that wrigley is a destination place, the cell isnt.

I don't see this thing being a huge success but they wouldn't do this if they weren't at minimum break even. They've probably done the numbers, but we will never know what the break even point is unless they release the figures. I also have no idea what a general game day operating costs are.

However, make money or not, the company that owns the stadium has two very prominent NIU alums on the board. Ones the chairman for the board of the holding company and another board member has his name on the building connected to Huskie Stadium. So regardless of economics this was two high powered individuals throwing a favor if they don't make money.

Have you ever been to US Cellular before? The area is actually built up with nice condos and it is completely safe to walk in that area. I attend 15-20 White Sox games a year.

Now, if you go to the other side of 394, then you are in trouble.

Nice try though.

I think he may have been referring to the team since we always manage to shoot ourselves in the foot against NIU.

Game is a go, channel 13 made the announcement at noon, today.

Still cheaper than Soldier Field I believe, and parking not as outrageous as at that venue. Plenty more than Huskie stadium though.

I gotta say, put this on a Saturday and I'm all over it.
Shorter drive or a easy flight from TOL.

The Rockets can't win at Huskie Stadium, they can't win at the Glass Bowl, I am all for a change of venue.

Chicago is so much better a destination than DeKalb, plus you save an hour drive each way.

$45-$65 is a bit steep for a conference game, but my bigger concern is sight lines. I do not like losing plays in the wash, a lot of low seats for baseball, teams standing on the sidelines could obstruct view, probably upper deck seats for me.

My understanding is that the field will run along the first base line. Haven't been to US Celluar, since it was the New Comiskey, I know it went through some renovations about 10 years ago, interested to see come of the differences.

And most importantly a Rocket victory!!!

I agree with this. I do hope this game gets scheduled either on or close to a weekend.

Won't happen on a weekend. I don't believe in college games on Fridays. Friday's are for HS

Price is cheap for the opportunity to watch the Rockets but an outrageous price to pay to watch NIU.

Yeah, I'm only going to watch when we got the ball so the game will be a bargain ... eh... yeah.

So in a bit of unusually obtuse thinking, I was thinking "dekalb" might be a conjugation of the word "kalb." You know, "da kalb," "de kalb," "des kalb," whatever so I google translated "kalb" to see what it might mean. lol

As an NIU fan this will be an unmitigated disaster.

I can sympathize as I can not envision Toledo selling a lot to tickets to an indoor Ford Field nor an outdoor Commerica Park on a weekday in November.
