So in a bit of unusually obtuse thinking, I was thinking "dekalb" might be a conjugation of the word "kalb." You know, "da kalb," "de kalb," "des kalb," whatever so I google translated "kalb" to see what it might mean. lol

Not a conjugation. It's Chicago. You know, George Wendt:: de Bulls, de Bears, de Kalb.

It is a 20 minute drive from DeKalb to the Metra commuter train station..it takes longer than that to drive from downtown Chicago to OHare airport.
Cab service is available right outside the Metra Oglivie Station in Chicago...
No excuse for NIU fans living in DeKalb and any burbs east of DeKalb and west of downtown...Driving is still the best option

Nov 9th is not a bad date...weather is usually pretty good for late fall. Besides, Al Gore said global warming is here so don't sweat the cold weather

If NIU was smart they will have buses for students waiting at the Chicago station

According to google translate, "kalb" is a calf in German so baby bull makes a bit of sense. Unless it's Albanian in which case it means "rot" Pretty sure it's Albanian.

May be too early in November but perhaps the men's or women's team will have a game the day after in the area.

Chicago is so much better a destination than DeKalb, plus you save an hour drive each way.

$45-$65 is a bit steep for a conference game, but my bigger concern is sight lines. I do not like losing plays in the wash, a lot of low seats for baseball, teams standing on the sidelines could obstruct view, probably upper deck seats for me.

My understanding is that the field will run along the first base line. Haven't been to US Celluar, since it was the New Comiskey, I know it went through some renovations about 10 years ago, interested to see come of the differences.

And most importantly a Rocket victory!!!

I agree with this. I do hope this game gets scheduled either on or close to a weekend.

This match-up will never again take place on a Saturday thanks to the MAC. It's their golden goose for the mid-week November games and always brings in the highest TV ratings for the entire conference slate. Because of that, it's always going to take place mid-week, regardless of how badly both schools may want it on Saturday. MAC & ESPN simply do not care what the individual schools want.

De Kalb is named after this man.

Very cool, a Patriot.

Quote: George Washington is reported to have said:
So, there lies the brave de Kalb. The generous stranger, who come from a distant land to fight our battles and to water with his blood the tree of liberty. Would to God he had lived to share its fruits!

Price is cheap for the opportunity to watch the Rockets but an outrageous price to pay to watch NIU.

You enjoy paying a premium for second place football? Just messing, hope a lot of people make it to the game.

Certainly will be interesting. I will prefer to watch in the comfort of my home in 70 degree Texas weather as opposed to the south side.

If previous events are used for example, I'd suggest having a personal financial planner ready with P.O.D. documents for anyone entering a Chicago food tent. Could be a windfall for the Alum Assoc. before the night's even over.

Have you ever been to US Cellular before? The area is actually built up with nice condos and it is completely safe to walk in that area. I attend 15-20 White Sox games a year.

Now, if you go to the other side of 394, then you are in trouble.

Nice try though.

How is the parking? Tailgating? Access to major Interstates?

Like rocket already said, there is PLENTY of parking and the tailgating scene is awesome...atleast for baseball. There is about 4-5 huge public lots right directly outside of the stadium.

The stadium is located directly off of the Dan Ryan so it very accessible. This may not be a good turnout for the students (For obvious reasons), but I do believe there will be a great turnout of alumni for this game based on the location.

We've been to some White Sox games. The last time was two seasons ago. Getting in was easy, but the police turned us away from the highway when we left. It took 45 minutes at least to get to the highway after that. Where is the best place to park or exit if you need to head east after the game?
