Interesting that we finished 10th in attendance in the MAC for 2014 yet ranked second in football ticket sales.

Becuase NIU doesn't fudge their attendance numbers like others programs have been known to.

Oh I agree. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone on the MAC board that agrees with that though.

It would be nice if there was more detailed explanations of how those numbers were determined. It would help to know how much is each school charging, what portion of their attendance is based on season tickets versus tickets sold per game. Could it be that other schools are not "selling" as many tickets as NIU for games but because they have way more season ticket holders they have better total attendance? Not saying that's the case, just wondering if it's possible because the breakdown of those numbers isn't clear.

RE: MAC TV contracts
The first sentence of the article is wrong. The new 10yr contract did not start in 2014, it starts in 2017.

Sounds like we really were under reporting; remember the ticket scanning issues?

Which would count as NIU not fudging their collected numbers. They reported it honestly even though everybody knew there were more people in the stands vs UNLV than what was reported.

RE: MAC TV contracts
we get fixated on the attendance stuff, but isn't it mindblowing how little we make from ESPN despite trading off games from more potentially lucrative saturday games?

NIU doesn't. The MAC does.

That's the key thing to remember about the TV contract. It benefits the conference itself at the expense of the individual programs.

The pay is going up quite a bit starting in 2017 when the new contract starts. The shouldn't have the expense of the ESPN3.com production equipment and should also be getting additional money.

I think the reasoning is the exposure received by being on one of ESPN channels is valuable advertising. We're not talking about some major conference that can promise the network great ratings.
