The Cajuns' baseball support is very impressive. I can only hope that with the Turner Field acquisition, GSU's support can at least move beyond the realm of terrible.

Just an FYI: although some will try to say that spring sports are 'irrelevant,' they could not be more wrong. Using UL as an example, while the improvements in our FB could be said to be the spark that has led to a renewed interest in our athletic programs, the recent baseball and softball successes have been the gasoline on the fire! It cannot be understated the impact of the recent hostings of the regionals and super regionals, and other post season successes has had for us. Our softball park is better than most baseball stadiums, and by next year we will undeniably have one of the best baseball venues as well. Of course, all of this has also led to recent improvements made in phase 1 of our athletic master plan....first part of Cajun field improvements, the fantastic new APC, etc.

At a recent baseball luncheon out associate AD mentioned our baseball program brought in $400k in revenue just from season tickets...that's really great considering you have that before you even open the gates. Add to that 3-4K people attending every game buying gear and comcessions. We are fortunate that our springs sports aren't a financial burden on our athletic budget like most schools.

I'm not sure anyone has seen the finalized plan. But I'm almost 100% sure that the Mecca of collegiate baseball Alex Box was built for $22 million.

I'm excited to see what we will have in 2017!

My company is part of the design team for the new Tigue so I have seen the plans. They aren't quite final yet, but are getting closer.

And yes the $17 mil figure is accurate.

I'd argue the other way around. Your softball team has always been nationally competitive and baseball was making runs the last two decades at least. During that span, the Louisiana football team was getting clobbered. Baseball and softball made College World Series appearances before football made/won a bowl game.

So, the big question is does the $17 costs mean that extras have been added to what has been revealed so far, or is it just costing more than first expected? Thx

Before 2014, I think the last time we hosted a regional was in 2000.

Hud started in 2011, which is when FB started turning around.

The culmination was 2014, with successes in all sports, and the national exposure of hosting both the softball and baseball regionals, etc. A lot of passion for the softball success to be sure, but even more for the baseball team...with a heck of a lot of excitement throughout the whole acadiana region.

So now you know I gotta ask: what extras are we talking about? I'm assuming that this will be reliant on receiving the extra money through a public (finally) campaign.
