We already tried that with the Gray twins. The Grays, I believe were better defenders than Key or McCarthy would be next year. If Maric stays healthy you can get away with it but if he doesn't we will all be saying why did you go into the season with only Maric. I don't see Zelis getting pushed out.

Advanced statistics which take into effect offense and defense indicate that Zelis is the worst player on the team...even worse than Orris.

He isn't quite ready for basketball at this level imo. Next year could be set up perfect for NIU. Akron loses forsythe mcadams and kretzer. Toledo only loses one person but one of the better players in MAC with Boothe. CMU loses Stewart fowler Simons Simmons

Isn't Orris a senior, or is his name hyphenated? If so, can it not be?

Orris is a Jr this year

The minutes won't be there for orris next year. At least that is what rational thinking would suggest.

Zelis unlike Orris hasn't played enough to know what his potential is. He still has two years after this one.

Unless Zelis magically gets quicker and can move his feet much better than he currently does, I do not see much improvement overall.

I would think Orris would be odd man out with Porter and Germann playing the Pg but who knows maybe Orris keeps Germann on the bench.

Akron so starting line-up next year: Jackson, Robotham, Williams, Cheatham and Johnson will be as good as any. Their bench will not be as good as normal. Also, Toledo will plug Garber in for Boothe and should be a very good team.

Yep I agree both Toledo and Akron will be good next year but in terms of saying they are conference title contenders that seems like a stretch to me. Akron might be at that level but obviously not nearly as good as this year. Now CMU is a whole other sorry. They just get pummeled with graduation

Toledo will have former Marquette Forward 6'7" Steve Taylor and 6'11'' Center Luke Knapke next season.

Not sure WTF "advanced statistics" are but it is unlikely they apply to a guy who gets 7 minutes a game. And they surely don't project possible growth/improvement one or two years ahead

As for the argument for/against Zelis being on the team next year...wasn't Maric not that great last year?

No, Maric was good last year. He played over double what Zelis is playing. You could easily see good potential in Maric. It's way too early to be pushing Zelis out.

As we know all too well, transfers mean nothing until you see them play.

I have not given up on Zelis. He seems to have a great attitude, and a solid team supporter. He will work hard & hopefully be able to be a plus for 12 minutes a game or so. That is all we need to give Maric a little breather, especially around tourney time where depth is critical

We would not have beaten Akron without him the other day: four points and two rebounds in seven minutes was huge as it bought Marin A much-needed blow against their giant Bigs. He is made major strides in development this year and with another summer working with the staff will improve even more. Defensively he will prove to be a big asset backing up Marin. There is a giant difference between 6'8" and 7 foot plus

Zelis surprised me against Akron. I had written him off but he gave us some quality minutes when we needed them. Hopefully he keeps improving.

Yep and usually (not all in all cases), there is good reason they are transfers
