It would cost more to tear it down than renovate and repair it.

With a new Mayor in place and Lipscomb gone, I think it's safe to say the TDZ plan is gone, and the whole issue will be revisited in a new light.

I'm not saying I think it's an option for the U. of M sports, and I am definitely saying I don't think the U. of M should be saddled with the cost of fixing it up. I guess we shall see what the City cooks up. I do know the two Coliseum restoration groups are still very active and adamant it be re-used.

And I think that's a safe approach --- it costs nothing to consider this. Tiger Lane is there - Tiger history is there - and it creates an option to "Hoops Inc" .. always important.

I live by Central and Lamar and you're so full of it....

250 million has been allocated to completely re-do Lamar.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/gov...14491.html

Cleveland St was just being leveled and repaved from Lamar past Union in anticipation of that project...

http://www.memphisflyer.com/memphis/clev...id=4184295

the Harahan Boardwalk should be finished by the end of this year.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/har...62731.html

and as I also pointed out you have private projects like Crosstown, Chisca, TN Brewery, One Beale, etc.

Sure there are islands of renovation or improvement but I'll take photos the next time through in a few weeks. I suppose you get so used to ignoring the problems you just see differently. In the meantime take a ride out Lamar (US78) to the MS line, take a ride down Getwell from Park Ave to I-240 & or Winchester or take Perkins from Park Ave to the intersection with US78, take a ride out 3rd St/US61 from Beale to the MS line, take a ride west on Crump from the Lamar intersection or Elvis Presley Blvd (Bellevue)/US51 from Union to Elvis Presley mansion. This is what visitors see from the south accesses to the city if they are not on the interstate or from/to the west. I won't mention the north approach through Frayser.......

We haven't been able to raise the balance of the $40,000,000 campaign for the South campus facilities. Not sure why anyone wants to spend another $25,000,000 to renovate a crumbling facility to gain a nightmare of maintence vs at worst playing in the FEF for free.

People, we are going through a rough spot. We have before and recovered and we will again. Don't completely give up and lose your minds. Grow a pair and get through this. Be part of the solution not the problem.

No where did he suggest that the U of M refurbish the MSC. Just asked how much it would cost.

City loses million in economic impact each year by shows by passing the city all together or going to the DCC.

We'll be talking about the same issue 10 years from now. Tear it down or renovate. I'm just tired of hearing of it.

It reminds me of reunion arena in Dallas. Once home to the Dallas Mavericks and venue for many other events. Then they build a bigger and better place and it set and rotted. They finally flattened it. Good riddance.

Cost more to tear it down and replace it with a 5000 seat multi purpose arena as they has originally planned. Than it cost to renovate it.

An odd question after three months. I didn't know he needed you to interpret the thread for him. Maybe the idea came from this being a regular topic on a UM sports message board.
