This is a junior college in Ohio. The starting QB is the teen with three other Steubenville, Ohio High School students raped a girl. The case was a national headline news story a couple of years ago. Trent Mays is not being accused, but you can see that a college or university would look the other way no matter if you are an Florida State, Baylor or a Hocking for them to win at all cost at all levels of college sports. Something needs to change in college sports to end all of this.

It is just another FSU and Winston case. The starting quarterback is Trent Mays. The kid who was found guilty with three other football players at Steubenville High School a few years back. It was on the national news. What is going on is like deja vu with the Steubenville case. Threats have been made against the accuser. Cases of complaints about guys harasshing and stalking the girls on campus. The administration have complaints against them for being corrupt. Students are leaving in droves feeling the campus is not safe.

I am still not clear on what Trent Mays has to do with this entire case?

Four guys on the Hocking College football team to which Trent Mays happens to belong, were accused and then subsequently exonerated of raping a young lady and somehow that relates to maze who was involved in a case of his own several years ago?

Look, I am not in any way condoning what happened at Steubenville. I followed that story closely because I live about a half an hour away from that school. Everyone who was punished as a result of that situation was rightly punished.

However, it is also true that oftentimes people learn from their past mistakes. If this kid went through the criminal justice system and paid his debt to society I don't think it's fair to him to beat him over the head with a baseball bat because of the actions – alleged or otherwise – of some other guys who happen to play on the same football team as that guy.

This is sensationalistic journalism if I've ever seen it and it's unfair to that kid to try and implicate him as part of it – entirely by association.

Incidentally, as an Ohio University alum – which is quite literally right down the street from Nelsonville – I happen to know that area extremely well. In fact, one of my best friends happens to be from Nelsonville. His family is probably the only black family in Nelsonville, which is so small that it's business district basically consists of a Sonic that is somewhat bizarrely located literally in the middle of the road. It basically splits at the sonic and rejoins after it. So, so strange and so Nelsonville.

Anyway, when you are a junior college located in a town that is barely even a town – it may have one stoplight and definitely does not have more than three – you have no power whatsoever. There is no way in hell that anyone is covering up anything at tiny Hocking College. The local high schools there are far more power and they are nothing more than a bunch of poor, rural high schools who probably can't even afford basic writing utensils for their students much less anything approaching advanced technology.

This is a complete non-story, IMO.

Enrollment increased 25% between semesters.

You're 100% right on this. My brother works in Nelsonville and does a lot of work with the college, as you said there is nobody covering anything up. There is a minimal athletic department there

Take a chill pill. Most of those articles are the exact opposite of "shocking."

For example, why does it shock you that schools give media training that includes how to answer sensitive questions? IMO it would be extremely negligent of them NOT to advise players how to answer that question.

Also, what is your beef with the administration of a tiny junior college on the opposite side of the country from you? You cite all these normal things as if they're shocking - for example, I'll bet the BOT of most large 4-year colleges don't have anyone with higher ed administration experience (I'm pretty sure most schools in Ohio like UC and OSU don't).

Most junior colleges are poorly run - it wouldn't shock me if this one is too. Why spend so much time looking for proof of it when it has nothing to do with the facts of the rape allegations?

The fact that the whole school is being run down. It is not in the best interests of the students and players as it is. My point is that what have been done at Baylor, Florida State or Tennessee, it goes all the way down to the lower levels. We need to clean the whole thing up from the P5 schools all the way down to the Junior Colleges.
