Great win, fellas. Keep rising!

(EDIT: Just checked Riceowls.com and it shows us as 2-10 on the road this year; is that right? This was only our 2nd road win of the season?? Wow. Even more congrats then, fellas.)

Actually. the Owls spotted ODU a 7-0 lead, so they didn't lead start to finish. Impressive effort in any case.

Haha my bad. The end of the game took so long that I forgot about the beginning of the game.

Women led start to finish. Definitely, their best win of the season. Nice day for Rice BB.

Can only imagine what was said and in what tone in the locker room after the Charlotte fiasco.

Whatever it was, looks like it was successful. Now on to the next one.

We were 17.5 dogs vs NM and 14.5 today vs ODU.

You are right about the end of the game taking a long time! I jut wanted to resort to a cheer from my days at Rice - go clock, go!

I'm thinking this week showed the inconsistency you'd expect from a young, new team. That's especially the case when you don't have a deep bench to call on when guys are having an off night. This team is going to be very good.

RE: Rice vs. Old Dominion
Agreed. I think first half of Charlotte and today show the ceiling. Basically controlling the game against teams in the upper half of the conference. The Charlotte second half shows what happens when you're young and thin. To my mind, I think we look to play closer to our potential more consistently. And I would think that our ceiling next year will be even higher than this year. Assuming health next year, don't see why we shouldn't at minimum be top 5 in the conference, and even challenge for a title with some breaks.

RE: Rice vs. Old Dominion
I'll admit I'm an optimist but I'd be disappointed if we didn't at the least challenge for top 4 next year. We're only going to see improvement from our freshmen, we get Marcus and Chad back, and we bring in the top ranked recruiting class in the conference (including Tim Harrison who 247 ranks as our best basketball recruit ever). Plus, the recruiting class was ranked before Martin committed, who's quickly turning into one of the headliners. I'm psyched for next year, but I'm also excited to see if this team can make noise in the conference tourney.

RE: Rice vs. Old Dominion
Really enjoyed being at the game today - really nice arena and classy ODU fans in our section. Igor was hot shooting in the first half when Evans was pressing a little in front of the home fans; Evans dribble-drives in the second half were fun to watch - such a quick first step. Max was frenetic on D and that really set the tone all game long. Drone had some trouble handling the ball in the first half but stuck with it and made some key baskets in the second half on second effort plays. Cashaw and Letcher-Ellis were both solid contributors in both halves. Nice all-around win.

Outstanding recovery, and yet more evidence that we have the man for the job in Rhoades

I didn't expect the meltdown against Charlotte, but once that happened, I had no hope that we could recover on the road and beat Old Dominion.

Great win; our players deserve a massive amount of credit.

WTG, Rice!!

Much better than the 114-86 loss I saw in person on December 28, 1971, in Norfolk's brand new Scope arena. (And then walked to my car to find it broken into and my stuff stolen.)

I'm sure Rhoades was important in getting this result today, but to your last point, no way we win if the players don't take it upon themselves to right the wrongs of the game before. Big kudos to the guys for putting the epic Charlotte meltdown in the rear-view mirror and pressing forward and getting a W. This shows just how serious of competitors they are.

Great win by the Owls. The defense was impressive, very energetic and intense, and the team seemed to play together very well.

Agree with johncatworth, ODU has a very nice arena. The ODU fans were numerous, but at least in our section, not unfriendly. It was very enjoyable, especially with the team playing so well!

Way to go, Owls!
