RE: C-USA notebook: Down year for league could cost UAB
I just read this ESPN article about next month's selection Sunday.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...d-answered

Gonzaga, in the West Coast Conference, which Pomeroy ranks as the 11th best conference, will likely have to win their conference tourney to make the Big Dance.

Witchita State, in the 12th ranked Missouri Valley Conference, may have to do the same.

C-USA is ranked 21st by Pomeroy. The Sun Belt is now up to 17th.

If he does, it will be the only thing resembling a home game for UAB.

Really. Why would you think that.

I just expect Auburn fans to outnumber UAB fans three to one. It will be an infestation of Auburn fans.

It never has been in the past. At best, some years it was 60-40 UAB, and that was when they had Charles Barkley. If anything, there will Bama fans there cheering against them.

agreed. Auburn fans will be focused on football. Many UAB fans will come out to watch Auburn (and swear they are there to watch the Blazers, but won't come back to watch them again)

I am wondering about the range of difference between the conferences. The range between the top (P5) conferences may be tighter than the range from #5 to #6 and the gaps may grow wider farther down the list. Is the gap between #11, #12, #17 and #21 comparable to the gaps between the higher conferences? I recall that Iraq was said to have the #4 military in 1990, but the range was much greater in reality.
