100 Years of Rocket Basketball
UT has started posting some youtube videos celebrating great moments in UT basketball history. Nice trips down memory lane.

First one, UT - Iowa. Short shorts, when Rocky actually looked like a rocket, and the only game Dick Miller ever dribbled more that one step.
Glad the highlights show the driving layup and 1 by Lehman, which I always thought was the actual key play of the game that everyone forgets.

Next up, UT vs. the (little) osu. Burch raining 3s, "The Dunk", and Justin Hall last second heroics.

Several years ago I was privileged to introduce Stan Joplin who was the guest speaker at the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce. It took some time to locate, but a nice person at UT found a copy of Stan's winning shot in the Iowa game. After introducing him, we played the tape and several hundred people at the meeting cheered wildly to welcome Stan.

How did o$u end up playing us on our home court? I thought big name programs didn't want to play here. I mean, it's very cool, just surprising.

I was there!!! Burch, Stempin, Hall (what could have been). I believe UT is 3-4 alltime vs tosu. No wonder why Zero State won't play the Rockets anymore!!!

Actually this isn't the 100th Anniversary of UT men's basketball. Anyway, here's a story from the Rocket Report about the best players in the first century.

NCR probably just hadn't gotten to it yet. I think he's posting one at a time?

Actually I missed that one. Thanks for posting.
No mention of Jeff Seeman's defensive play, though.

Looks like they have been posting 1 per week. 3 so far. Wonder how many more there are.

1915-16 was the first season, so this year is the 101st season, or the 100th anniversary.

RE: 100 Years of Rocket Basketball
And actually, for the 1915-16 season, they didn't actually play any games in 1915. First game of record was at Akron, January 14, 1916.

First win was against .... wait, wait ... BGSUx on January 27, 1916. So we've been officially kicking BGs a$$ for over 100 years.

I believe we signed a 2 for 1 with them back in the mid 90's.

Rockets are 4-5 against OSU including 2-0 in Savage.

Recall beating a Kelvin Ransey team, after which a friend who went to OSU told me that the OSU coaching staff swore publicly they would never play Toledo again.

I was walking out the door to see that one when my wife asked me to pick up a bag of apples and put them on the counter. 3 hours, one emergency room trip and one shot of Demarol later, I caught the last few minutes on radio with every cheer causing agony in my back. Rare home game miss. Herb Williams was on that team as well.
