RE: 5 things to expect in the 2016 CUSA football season
"Out West? It’s pretty much a one horse race as Southern Miss is the clear favorite. Don’t get me wrong, the Golden Eagles have the talent to win the championship as well, but with the team breaking in its fourth head coach since 2011, I have my reservations. The positive for USM fans is at least this time new hire Jay Hopson is taking over a program trending upwards. The Golden Eagles are one of the Group of 5’s most storied programs, so seeing them back in the hunt for conference titles is a great thing for CUSA."
Saying it's a one horse race in the west definitely counts out LaTech. So it was more than an omission and borders on saying they are gonna be bad. Not hard to infer that.
Also, Southern Miss (CUSA Champs) was at the top when Ellis took over so they were upward, already. And, when Monken stepped in they hadn't won a game in 2 years so they pretty much had to be trending upward. I get what the blog is saying, but I might have just said Jay Hopson, unlike Johnson, isn't a P5 shill, and like Monken, will have a genuine desire to keep USM succeeding.
