How did we get here?

What's next?

Is an at large bid possible?

So you're saying the committee would ignore a team with more than 28 wins for the first time ever? Six teams have made it in with 60+ RPI's. If SFA wins out and Middle only loses to us we'll have some top 100 wins. Combine all of that with our performance in the tournament last year...it's possible. Don't forget this tournament is about money. They'll favor a hot team over a higher graded team all day.

The likelihood of all of those things happening and us getting an at large is remote.

Absolutely. Just wanting to reveal to people that we'd be putting the committee in a unprecedented situation.

Unprecedented maybe but not a tough decision to make. UAB does not and will not have a resume worthy of an at-large bid period thus making it very easy for the committee not to select us.

You're basing your decision off of statistics. If you think that's all the consider, you're incorrect. They want eye balls and storylines.

If we don't win the C-USA tournament in Birmingham, we're headed to the NIT. We don't have a snowball's chance in a deep fryer of an at large bid.

We don't "pass the eye test".

It's the numbers test we don't pass. If anything the eye test might work for us.

Maybe the deep fryer isn't plugged in and is sitting in a freezer in Minnesota.

RE: State of the Blazers
When we are playing our best ball, we are definitely a tourney quality team.

We didn't play an at large worthy schedule, we we lost the games we needed to win to have an outside chance at getting in.

It's frustrating, because I think this team is good enough to be at at large team. However, you simply couldn't justify us getting based on all the numbers.

We need to take the blaze show on the road for a couple of money games next year. We have to do what we have to do to get an at large worthy resume. You can't tell me there aren't 2-3 major conference teams willing to give us one game at their place. I just don't believe it. "Disrespect" be damned. We have to do what we have to do..

You don't know what I am basing my decision off of. Hell, it's not even my decision. But resumes do not lie. If you got 28 wins against a bunch of nobodies, you're not getting an at-large bid. And why you think UAB will garner eyeballs or be a storyline is kinda befuddling to me. But whateva floats your boat. I just hope UAB wins the tourney so we don't have to worry on Selection Sunday.

All you have to do is look at Murray State last year. They won something like 23 straight games, went undefeated in conference and then lost to Belmont in the OVC final and ended up a 3 seed in the NIT. They'd have no problem leaving us out.

UAB may get some slight points for being a Cinderella last year (we've benefitted from that in the past, also), but it wouldn't be enough to get us an at large. We don't deserve it based on the numbers. Our schedule is absolute garbage. End of story.

Exactly. Murray St won 29 games last year and got left out. So it's not unprecedented for a team with 28 wins to be left out. Nice blog though, keep up the good work BlazerGold09.
