Liberty Bowl Seating Change
Just got an e-mail on the new chair back seating. Looks like my section will be getting chair backs and will require a donation.

But just $50. I sit in 119, so my total price will go from $400 (I think) last season to $600 this year. Still not bad for 7 games and the chair backs will be much nicer than having to ask the Ole Miss fan and his 4 kids to move out of our seat numbers on the old bench seating.

RE: Liberty Bowl Seating Change
yep, just got the same.

Tiger2000,

Thank you for being a part of one of the most exciting seasons in Memphis Football history. With 19 wins in the last two seasons, and the announcement of Mike Norvell as the new head coach, the future of Memphis football is extraordinary. This email is to inform you of the resolution the City of Memphis approved to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on December 15, 2015. Premium seating renovations have been approved, including the addition of 5,596 premium chairback seats. These new seats will serve to enhance the fan gameday experience.

As a result of these renovations, the addition of premium seats in the Liberty Bowl creates fewer seats overall. The larger chairback seats displace the bench seats, producing a reduction in seating. This will result in a seat selection process for season ticket holders in these affected areas only. This includes seats below the ADA walkway in sections 101-109, sections 117-123, and sections 131-132. Your seats are located in one or more of these sections. As a result of this displacement of seats, we will hold a seat selection of the sections above in mid-March through early April.

YOUR AFFECTED SEAT LOCATION:

*********

YOUR DONOR/SEASON TICKET HOLDER #:

*****
You will receive a follow-up letter in mid-February with your appointment time to select your seats. This will be based on your giving level and priority point ranking within that level. If you are not a TSF donor, the appointment time will be based on your longevity as a season ticket holder, which is inclusive in our priority points system. You will have the option of selecting new seats in-person at the Penny Hardaway Hall of Fame or over the phone. If you choose not to respond, we will automatically select the best available seats nearest to your current season ticket location.

As a part of this premium seating upgrade for our fans, we are implementing a per-seat donation in these sections. The premium seating donation ranges from $25-$150 per-seat. The ticket price for all sections with premium chairbacks will be $250. As always, a vast majority of our seats will remain with no donation requirement. Only the premium chairbacks will require a donation. If you wish to move to a location without a donation, you may do so during the seat selection. For additional information, including seating map, pricing, frequently asked questions, and other information please visit http://www.gotigersgo.com/lbs.

We look forward to working with you to find a seat location that best suits your preference. Thank you for working with us as we add more premium upgrades and enhance the overall atmosphere at the Liberty Bowl. On behalf of the entire Department of Athletics, thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting year.

GO TIGERS!

RE: Liberty Bowl Seating Change
yeah, i am pretty excited about it. The only worry is whether I will get to keep my seats on the aisle, but honestly there is plenty of room around my seats usually so I will be surprised if I end up having to move.

I like the folks that sit around my section, I don't hear a ton of bad language (have kids who come to the games) and nobody poor mouths the team or the coaches the whole game. i have never minded the sun in the early season games.

no, we're going from under 1000 chair-back seats...to ~15,000 chair-back seats.

if my memory serves, the grey is already chair-back...the yellow is the new chair-back seating...I think.

My seats are in the grey, section 104 row 32, don't think those are chairbacks.

yeah, that's a very odd map...this better shows it, IMHO...new seats are yellow, old seats are royal blue

There will only be 5,596 new chairbacks. Not 15,000.

Quote:University of Memphis athletic officials are interested in increasing the number of chair-back seats at city-owned Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium from about 500 to approximately 15,000, an upgrade that would reduce the 60,000 capacity by several thousand.

Tiger athletic director Tom Bowen said Thursday the addition of chair-back seats “would add a great dynamic” for Tiger fans. He said the seats would be located halfway up the east and west sides of the stadium and be placed between the 30-yard lines. There would be 7,500 chair-back seats per side, Bowen said.

I see that they cleverly (and subliminally) discourage the purchase of the cheaper FunZone seats by using orange. BRILLIANT!!02-13-banana

hmmm..... So last year was the first time I ever bought FB tickets and they are in the yellow. Email says to call and discuss the new ones with a representative, or they are going to choose for you. But don't you need to give them your cc again?

I've never renewed so how does that process work? thanks.

I think the hope was to add 15,000, but the price tag was probably too high with the current demand. I wonder if more can be added at a later date?

Yes, you have to confirm renewal at some point. It is not auto-renew. They more than likely are giving you the option to chose now, or take your chances when they do contact you about renewing.
