Minor League Baseball team season in jeopardy with lawsuit with city over stadium

The city and the team are both suing each other. High Desert's manager (Spike Owen) has now been named the interim third base coach for the major league team as the existing 3rd base coach is getting treatment for cancer.

The team is looking into using other nearby minor league stadiums for "home" games.

Why not play at Cal-Poly Pomona? I'm biased though, my family is from Pomona.

I'm sure there will be lots of scheduling conflicts to deal with if they do indeed have to play at other stadiums. Looking at maps, Pomona is about an hour away without traffic, wouldn't be very good for the (few) existing season ticket holders. Either way they're not going to have many fans anywhere this year.

On a related note, apparently the team is selling upper deck tickets for $4 today as a Leap Year special. Hurry up and buy tickets for a team that if they play you have no idea where it will be!

That's better than playing at the opponents ballpark.

Yet another terrible stadium deal. The team pays $1/yr in rent and the city picks up all the maintenance costs - $100K/year - yet the city receives almost no revenue. It's a 30K person city, just outside a city of about 120K (Victorville). City is in debt (shocker) but rejected a $1.6MM offer to purchase the stadium last year. Good grief.

Best they can do, moneywise, is to find a relatively low cost location to play in and where coaches and players can easily live nearby. Make a deal with a small college or any of the many community colleges with baseball fields to use their facilities for this season.

That whole area is impoverished. If martial law was declared, the Inland Empire would become a war zone every bit as much as Detroit.
