The difference is that not all universities have stadiums that are engineered to sell out 100% of the time, so other fans do have the opportunity to buy tickets. I am perfectly ok with season tickets requiring a donation.

It only takes a donation of $100 to buy two season tickets currently.
Many of us have increased our donation to secure tailgate spots. If you want to be in this lot you better give at least this much. At least that is what I do. I do not see that ever changing. Since tailgate spot are off what you give that year and not any points you have. I also have 10 tickets that I control for a group of friends. So it works for us currently.

I have always said JB and WS would always keep the stadium a small intimate setting. Lots of amenities -less seats. Keep demand high!!!!
That way you can keep ticket prices high.
Donation will always be high with the limited number of tailgate spots.

Doesnt work for UTSA

To be fair, they also aren't splitting time between two venues as OP was suggesting.

True.
I should of posted more, but was on my phone.
UTSA plays in a huge stadium, in an area that could very well support an NFL team. Yet... every time I've seen them, that stadium looks barren. Makes me sad for them.

I'm sure your comment was tongue-in-cheek, but I don't think there's a large enough parcel of land availavle in Norfolk, and Virginia Beach leadership is slipping into disfunction.

Besides, I think the days of cities building football stadiums on spec. with no guarantee of an NFL team moving in are over.

For sure. It'd be nice to have a big-game stadium option (Rice just inked a three-game deal with Texas that includes a game at the Texans' stadium, and Charlotte has the Panthers' stadium in a pinch), but it'll never happen. Is The (Shooting) Gallery at Military Circle a big enough parcel? I can't imagine the logistics of making it work even if it were, but it beats the other idea I had in mind for redeveloping it (hint: it involves a tactical nuclear warhead)
