When Jay Hopson was selected to be the next head coach of USM, I felt terrible about it..thinking this was another mistake as I compared to the EJ fiasco..maybe not as bad, but still a huge mistake for Southern Miss football. But for some reason, this last week I have started feeling better about this hire. I don't know why, but I have changed my way of thinking. Who knows, Hopson might be the next big thing in the coaching circle, and that "next big thing" loves Southern Miss. He wants to be here, he agreed to the structure of the contract which allows USM's commitment to him..but also his commitment to USM. As long as he keeps well qualifies assistants around from year to year and always hires an OC that runs a high temp offense to keep up with the way college football is going, I think he will be ok. I'm hoping that our defenses get better and better each year with him being a defensive minded guy. After thinking, we may have found a diamond in the rough..and a plus would be for him to want to be here for a long time. (Ex: Hugh Freeze @ Ole Piss)
