Surely you've heard we're building a new stadium. The trick is building it quickly so we can get the better recruits and a financial boost before we gain a poor reputation. Right now, we're still a winning program on the rise. We need to keep it that way.

Winning? We finished 5-7. It could have been 6-6 if there wasn't a sorry ass play call at the end of the FAU game.

We need to add a sport that brings in revenue. I propose that we add college hockey. We could perhaps use the scope as a venue (at least for a while). The success of the Admirals tells me hockey might work at ODU. Become an independent, and if successful, in 10 years petition Hockey East for inclusion. For title 9 add women's hockey also.

What no one with an opinion about college hockey? I was only half kidding about that. I think hockey, if done right could be an amazing revenue source. And really if we are talking about adding a sport it would have to be revenue producing. I don't know if lacrosse fits that requirement, not to mention you need ever dwindling land on campus to build a field and seating. The scope, if available, would be the perfect venue for a college hockey team. Could we make a deal with the city of Norfolk and the Admirals? Never know until you ask. If however a deal could be struck, it might be a pretty good idea. Would hockey work for ODU? Would it take away basketball fans? Could we hire a really good coach? Could we get into a good conference? (Hockey East should be the goal), best hockey conference on the east coast by far. Most of our recruiting would be out of state and into Canada. I would like to hear pros and cons on this albeit crazy sounding idea.

ODU has a club hockey team. Plays in Chesapeake. Hockey is awesome, but is one of the most expensive sports out there. We're not talking just about games, you have to have ice time for all practices (which is not cheep) there is a lot of gear involved, and a travel party that numbers in the 50's.

I'd love to see it happen, but that's a lot of money.

RE: Should ODU Add Men's Lacrosse?
Considering how much the Admirals have been struggling at the gate, I can't imagine there being much demand for a college hockey team around here. Plus nobody near here plays it (closest teams would be in Pennsylvania) so even if ODU could make the finances/Title IX issues work, they'd be wise not to do anything until a group of like-minded institutions showed definite interest in NCAA hockey. Liberty might take the plunge, but they're the only ones I see in the foreseeable future.

It's going to be a while before a men's sport is added at ODU, but I'd take lacrosse before hockey for sure.

I'd love to have lacrosse. I know nothing about it but enjoy watching it on TV when it comes on. My graduate school has a solid lacrosse program so I watch a decent amount.

We have a Men's club team right now. They play CNU on Saturday at the LR Hill complex at 6pm if anyone wants to watch it.
