68 Cincinnati is sure better than 70 Temple and 86 Ohio State!

I think he gets at LEAST one more year regardless of how this season ends.

He will be gone when the school has no other choice. Until the buyout becomes reasonable, he will stay as long as the yearly record stays above 500. Just too big a buyout and the next guy has got to be the RIGHT guy.

There is NO BUYOUT. He will be paid for the next 4 years.

The question is can we afford to play someone else, say $1.3-$1.6 at the same time.

We can't

I disagree. I say we cannot afford not to.

That is what I said. Call it whatever, we can't pay him AND the next guy (who won't come cheep).

RE: Pastner for 1 more year
So basically people believe the continue to let the signature program of the athletic program go down in flames because boosters signed off on a dumb contract?

If the boosters who insisted on giving him a stupid contract that they were paying because they expected results were willing to pay the stupid contract, then they would be willing to pay him to go away when its obvious to even the biggest fans of the coach that the roster will be worse next year than it is this year and attendance will drop by double digits if he is back.

You assume the next guy will be a "wow" hire. A up-and-comer with an actual history as head coach or a reclamation project might not be that expensive.

This team could go on a run and win the conference tourney. He's getting paid regardless and it makes no sense to turn the program upside down by firing him and taking a risk on a new coach.

Anyone wanting to keep Pastner beyond this season needs to seek help quickly. They won today in SPITE of him. Cincy probably played their worst game of year. As another poster said, there are other reasons he has to go.

So, where do you suggest we get the money? I don't see the school paying 10 mil AND bringing in a guy for 300k and hoping he does better. Like everythjng else, it all comes down to money.

I think you are correct, unless they loose 5 of the last 9 any go out in first round in Orlando. That is just a prediction, nothing else.

The school or boosters do not have to pay a lump sum of $10 million. Unless he resigns, JP will be paid monthly for the next 4 years. That money is already spent.
If Memphis cannot come up with another $1.5 annually, there is a reason we are not in a P5 conference. And should not be.

Where do you think they get the money? Do you really think Pastner is making $2.65 million out of ticket sales and the AAC annual payment?

Boosters came up with the money and they pay the school to pay Pastner. That is money that has already been agreed to be paid. It's lost money.

If Bowen wants to preserve the basketball brand and doesn't want to to suffer internally with the fanbase and externally with the reputation, he'll cut our losses and find more money.

If we suffer through another year or two or three when the masses are finally on Pastner's deficiencies, we won't be have games on ESPN and CBS-TV anymore. We'll be a dead brand like DePaul. Remember when they were good?

It sure is easy to spend other people's money.
