How many teams in the top 25 haven't been to a Sweet 16 in 7 years? The ones that don't have national titles to fall back on, like Arkansas.

The only difference between us and Arkansas is they got away with their shenanigans and we didn't.

I've always looked at it from a total program perspective, and I evaluate it this way.. If you had to bet significant money on a game between the U of M and ____________ to be played on a neutral court 6/7 years from now, who would you pick?

Long enough that the current coach and players will be gone. you are evaluating a program, their ability to attract coaches and players and produce.

So go through the SEC, and I would pick Memphis over most, but not UK and Florida, maybe not Arky..

Would you pick Memphis over Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Ok State?

How about Cincy, Uconn? Temple?

UNC, Duke, Louisville, Virginia?

Memphis is a top 30-50 program. We should make the tourney 3-4 years, make a 16 run in one of those. This could of course all change.

Very scientific way of ranking teams-you are a genius. Let ESPN know so they can change their rankings.

Sure, I feel you, but if you're looking at where we all sit at this moment and where the trends are going.

I also really can't discount cartel (P5) membership perks.

UT@Austin is basically a public Ivy, has a huge enrollment and a alumni base that stretches from sea to shining sea.

I would say, no doubt, that we are historically stronger, but the resource disparity and P5 membership, along with having a overall brand that is one of the best in college sports... They might be a very big deal.

I don't disagree with you in any way but I feel like this is a different argument entirely. Of course Texas is a major program. They are one of the top ADs in the country and that's why they will always have P5 (for lack of a better term here) membership.

$25.4 billion endowment is why they are who they are.

Why are you being needlessly rude. It's a matter on opinion and this is highly subjective.

Gaston is by far my least favorite local sports guy.

Memphis is down, but is absolutely a Top 25 program.

Musing about how a team has done in "past few years" when I posted the results of a study by ESPN that covery 50 years is kind of off the subject. Sorry if you were offended by having that pointed out.

Not offended by you touting an ESPN study, but it IS subjective and people are entitled to their OPINION.

Whatever.

Getting the last word in is usually of no consequence to me but the ESPN study was MUCH more scientific and a far longer time period that the random posts about Iowa St., etc that have done well over last 7-8 years or maybe in one or two decades but are teams that haven't produced over 50 year period.

Posters just want to argue for argument's sake or find "facts" to support their preconceived notions. This is not my hypothesis but that of the largest sports information producer in the world.

Gaston is one of those guys who likes to make sure we all know he isn't a homer, somehow that makes him feel like his opinion matters. I have never understood why he gets so many gigs covering a school that he likes to knock at every chance. ESPN does a fact based assessment and had us at #19, Greg is just his P5 bias coming out.
