And I don't want to hear about the money he's being paid, IMO I'd rather succeed and be poorly paid than to to be highly paid for failing and I suspect he feels the same way. It has to be a huge blow to him.
I do wish we could put this horrible chapter behind us with a new coach who knows how to lead and motivate so don't label me as a supporter but I think the personal shots are cheap.
Lol at who's the author of this thread.... the same poster who endlessly make personal attacks of the POTUS pretty much daily in that other forum but now all of a sudden he's against such childish behavior.
*que the Kermit sippin' tea meme*
Most don't dare visit that forum. Otherwise, they'd know you for the biggest racist on the board.

Nice but predictable attempt to get your unnecessary digs in while pretending to make some nuanced point.
He has not failed miserably. He has not been completely unsuccessful. It has not been a horrible chapter.
Why be such an incredible ass?
And no, things have not been great and recent performances very well could be the straws that cost him his position. The thugs will gang up here, but, it takes a real ass to equate certainly disappointing in the big scheme of things but nonetheless a handful of conference tourney championships and season championships and tourney wins hardly equates to miserable failure or horrible.
I see the asses have run wild...this will get them going, daring to wonder where supposedly smart people placed their ideas of nuance.

TB4E is a long term poster and his heart is very much in the right place IMHO. I'd like to address a few points personally.
1. Saluki raised a fair point in re: insults (ex: Calipari and Pearl) and while it's on one front fair and I respect Saluki addressing this duality, personally I think there are some distinctions:
- JP, better for worse, is the HC and by definition, one of ours.
I've always regarded the Calipari slurs as a fanbase burned and lashing out against a guy many loved. I don't love it, but some soreness is expected, though I thought it would lessen by now (note: I'm still sore, but it has been 7 years, statute of limitations and all that).
The ones for Pearl I always found good natured. Sexhog? He's overweight and seems to personally connect with co-eds. I ain't hating on that. I'm carrying ten extra and had my day with the co-eds. I always found the Pearl ones amusing and I like Pearl.
JP is different b/c he's our guy. Maybe not happily, but until he is axed, he is the HC at Memphis and he gets some benefits with that distinction in my view.
Again, the recent failures of the team have amped up the frustration and that is 100% understandable, so some name calling and complaining is par for course at 13-9 RPI 120+ (?). It's sort of like reffing a ballgame, we can't call it all.
So, I don't know. Don't call him really vile stuff, but if you slip up and get a little frustrated, I think we understand? Hell, what can we do at this point. Just try to remember JP is still a human and act accordingly?
2. Leaking issues from the poly-reg to here is pretty much not okay. The poly-reg is big boy turf and it's full contact. We have posters that are nice as pie on the DF and take shots at people's knees on the poly-reg. C'est la vie, don't like it rough, don't go there. I'll admit some days, I'm not dealing with it, I'm a self employed guy in America's pressure cooker and I already am in danger of a heart attack on a daily basis from Lewis Black levels of rage. I gotta dodge that forum some days, dig?
But poly-reg grief and DF grief are not the same. You want to call out people for their actions on the Poly-Reg on the DF, please don't. Compartmentalization is your friend.
///
That's the soap box. And #1 is my opinion and worth exactly nothing. #2 is more of a board governance issue and should be read as such.
OK, this week sucked and if we lose tomorrow, this board may be in full meltdown mode. So if this is our last night together on the DF, may you all enjoy your evening and may the ghosts of Tigers past have mercy on all our souls this unfortunate 2015-2016 BB campaign.
Be well all
SD
IMHO, both POTUS and CJP are fair game by nature of the position. What is also fair game is a posters hypocrisy. If you are actively demonstrating the behavior you are preaching against the locus of the hypocrisy is irrelevant.

He doesnt have to say "I completely suck and Im an utter failure". But what he chooses to say is so ridiculous that it deserves ridicule. JOSH chose to say that the Cal years weren't Memphis basketball. JOSH chose to be a smarta** when Calkins pointed out that we make the S16 every 4 years.
If a player chooses to cuss at Pastner, do they get a consequence? Yes.
When an awkward nerd that is destroying something close to our hearts says the same stupid crap to the media, is there a consequence? Yes. Part of that consequence is ridicule and personal attacks. Don't like it? Stop saying stupid crap
I agree with this post. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining sunshine. I'm not the problem with my basketball team. How do you tell the players that the program is bigger than any of them but then tell me as a fan I'm the problem with unrealistic expectations of my program?
Yes two sweet 16's were vacated but doesn't that show you what can happen? Who is being the negative Nellie now? When the team fails to live up to any expectation, are we as fans just supposed to say, "oh well we are Memphis, we feel lucky to have a team." This statement reveals that maybe Josh has become immune to the lack of success.
I'm not attacking his character. No one questions his character. Not even the coaches that are negatively recruiting against him. But they do question, why kids who grow up wanting to play for Memphis changed their mind after they got on campus? Why do highly ranked players disappear off draft boards once they arrive on campus? etc. etc. Those facts speaks for themselves.

Personal attacks.
Didn't y'alls mamas ever tell ya not to call people names? Or make fun of the people whose ears stick out? Or make fun of someone just because they talk funny?
Doug Gottlieb made fun of Pastner's hair...do y'all wanna grow up to be like Doug Gottlieb?

This may be the first time I gained a smidgen of respect for Doug Gottlieb. I hate him, but if he made fun of Pastner in any way….. gotta love that

Ouch!!! That's harsh. An apropos PSA, but harsh. :)
Personally, I just try to not resort to complete nonconstructive rhetoric and overt agenda pushing name calling from posters like Mimi (as exemplified in this very thread). It's a shame there aren't any threads dedicated to helping to keep checks on personal attacks on forum members.
All the 'sunshine pumpers', 'miserables', 'a**hole' attacks are really the plague of this forum and need to stop.

I'm not digging at him, by all reasonable standards all rational people understand that his tenure here has been a bust. Only overly loyal people like yourself can look at his complete body of work and conclude he's done well.
I would love nothing more than to see him have an epiphany and suddenly go on an extended tear and become the winning-est coach we've ever had, gain a NC, have a long fruitful career and retire from here in 20-30 years.
Do try not to be a dik. I was one of those who jumped off the bandwagon late because I wanted him to be all the above. It's not happening.
And I don't play sophomoric word games, I say what I mean, and I meant everything I said. I don't do nuance.
