OT: Louisville to self-impose post-season ban
presser at 1:30 EST today. Question is, based on the information, will this be enough to satisfy the NCAA?

RE: OT: Louisville to self-impose post-season ban
I came here to post the same story. I was delayed a few minutes by the delight in imagining the reaction in Louisville. Couldn’t happen to a better group of fans.
Perhaps SMU and UL could play an extra suspension-special game before the tournament kicks off?

I live in Louisville and a good majority of my co-workers are UofL fans. The general consensus is that Katrina Powell is a liar and they did nothing wrong. Obviously, the university would not be taking such drastic steps ahead of the NCAA investigation results if they did nothing wrong. The arrogance of the program and fans at UofL apparently has no boundaries!

RE: OT: Louisville to self-impose post-season ban
Nothing like having the post season ban be for this year now that all tickets have already been sold, and getting it out of the way before next year's ticket sales.
Plus getting all the sanctions out of the way this year has no effect on future recruiting.

So much for the lies of a money-grabbing, attention-seeking escort. I actually feel bad for the current players on the team who feel the wrath of the self-imposed ban for a scandal they had no part in. Where is the self-imposed punishment for the coaches and higher-ups? Oh, no one knew anything was going on. Riiiiight. The NCAA can still impose additional sanctions and I believe they will when it is all said and done.

Two players transfer in for their last season thinking they would be in NCAA for the first time. I could feel bad for the payers but remember many of them were on the receiving end of "services provided".

UK would be first on my list.

RE: OT: Louisville to self-impose post-season ban
I was appalled by the narrative ESPN was pushing while watching the game today.
Before the game They had Vitale being completely incredulous that they could do this to poor Rick. Whom he knows so well, and who would never stoop so low (yes, restaurant table Rick). He says he didn't know, so he didn't know. And he even took a lie detector test and passed, per Dick (If we're going to give credence to quackery, wonder if a phrenologist could examine Rick's skull to see if he has the cranial bumps typical of a head coach without "institutional control").
Both Vitale and the UC/Memphis announcers kept banging on about how unfair this was to the team. How cruel it was for the poor kids, who are playing so well this year and had nothing to do with it. . And particularly, to the sainted graduate transfers, who wanted only to spend a mercenary like season competing against kids five years younger. Since the hookers hadn't been used when they were recruited, it was unfair.
I don't get any of this. Should SMU not have been penalized in the 80s because a walk on didn't get paid?

I didn't see Vitale, thank god. But Welsh seemed like he was trying to hold back from totally saying it's Pitino's fault, at least that's how it sounded to me.

I didn't hear that at all - one of them seemed to have some problems with graduate transfer rule, saying that they should have to sit out a year, and that their new team's postseason ban shouldn't matter if they were actually attending to obtain a graduate degree, as the rule is designed to facilitate. If anyone came close to calling out Slick, then I missed it.
After that segment, they had an NBA scout on for another interminable period. The whole of the first half there was very little play by play of the game, which is probably a good thing.

I saw it and it made me want to barf. As I posted in the game thread, ESPN loves Louisville. They love Pitino. Made me think about the kind of coverage this would garner if UC was the one forfeiting their season. Have to think their would be a lot of negative coverage, both locally and nationally.

I'll never understand the irrational thoughts by so many on this board that everyone is out to get UC: the refs, the tournament committee, the local media, the national media, etc. Is there some nationwide conspiracy I'm not aware of?

I will say, as an out of towner, we are still seen as "Thugs" even though it has been more than 10 years since we were as tough and imposing as we were in the 90s. On the selfish side, we do seem to have more than our share of hard luck sometimes.

Can you tell me the last time you ever thought "wow all the calls are going our way today"? I do not recall ever thinking that in all my years of following UC Athletics.
As far as the local media goes, I guess you did not read the Enquirer the past week. Even if you believe it was reasonable for the Enquirer to send reauests to UC for info on expansion and even if you believe UC should have handed it over more expeditiously, the tone of that article was wayy over the top.

RE: OT: Louisville to self-impose post-season ban
People that blame refs blow my mind. Why are the refs against UC? Do they hate the institution? Hate Mick Cronin? Hate the city? Do they all have money against UC? Not just UC though, they ALL also hate the Bengals and the Reds. Get a grip. Reffing does not cost UC any games and it sure as hell had nothing to do with the loss yesterday. If the game comes down to one play and the refs blow it that's on the team and coaches.
Also what I always say to people who ***** about refs is to get out there and give it a try. It is not easy and you make mistakes.

I agree officiating had nothing to do with the loss yesterday.
On a larger scale, I have even heard people associated with the athletic dept say the officiating has not been kind to UC this year across the board.
