What say you?

so you're bragging that Memphis lost? interesting...

the miserables seem to be taking delight in Memphis' fall...I feel Josh Pastner is a great face of the program, he graduates his kids, they don't get arrested...unfortunately he doesn't seem to win enough, and I take no delight in that.

it's time to move on, but like with Tommy West, I take no delight in seeing a good guy go down.

I don't see where anyone is taking delight in the Tigers losing or the condition of the program. I don't read that in the post you referrenced either. No one that is a Tiger fan is enjoying the state of the BB program or the trajectory it is on now. I always thought the back and forth attacks of how one reacts to this is unnecessary and serves no purpose other than promoting division and animosity. jm2c

Maybe you're mistaking delight with gallows humor.

RE: some seem to delight in Pastner's fall...I do not
Doesn't seem to win enough? I think its the almost total absence of quality wins. Except for 2013-14 his teams have pounded inferior teams but when faced with equal or better talent they rarely won and were often blown out. Even in 2013-14 some of the losses were epic blow outs but a least they pretty much broke even: 5-6 against ranked teams.

Great face of the program? Go back through the years of press conferences and listen to how awkward they are.

Is he a good dude? Yes, seems to be. Does he run a clean program? Almost certainly. Do his players graduate? Yes they do.

Does he do a good job of retaining players in the program? No, no he doesn't.

He likely wont' succeed at any hc job. Why? Let's say he gets a low-major position. The talent level will probably be pretty even or he'll be way behind in his buy games. He won't be able to recruit high level players to that type of school; he'll actually have to coach up the players he does get and out coach his opponent. How often has he won here when the talent levels were equal? How often has he schooled the other coach? No, Pastner's best fit will be on someone like X's staff where he has that coach and that program to sell to high level recruits.

lol, is there an echo in here?

I would agree that I should have said "doesn't win enough quality games, while having too many mid-major slip ups"

I don't "delight" in it. I want the Tigers to be good. I am just about 3 years beyond the point of believing that Pastner is capable of turning this around. He isn't. And the more losses at this point, the quicker that this might end.

He is a much better coach today than he was the day we hired him. His best bet is to get a fresh start (away from negativity) with a head coaching job at a lower tier program and work his way back up. I will not be surprised to see him make some AD look pretty smart in the future.

I feel for Josh and I also feel for Tom Bowen who is in a very tough spot, with immense pressure to fire a fine man and to deal with a $10.6 million loss which we cannot afford.

For once I agree with you. A little empathy for a young man who looks in the mirror every morning and now has to question his ability to be successful at the only thing he's ever wanted to do with his life would be appropriate. It's not as if he set out to destroy the program. Any responsible manager I ever had took the attitude that if I failed the failure was more on them than me. He was set up to fail from the get go.

What a stupid thread. Those that you label "miserables" are miserable because the program is miserable. If Pastner succeeds, then the program succeeds and everyone is happy. The problem is that he's not capable and he's proven it. No one takes delight in this.

All Josh fans have done the past several years is go after the fans that don't want him around. It's their only defense when they can't point to on-court success.

Pastner has taken Memphis to 4 NCAAs and an NIT...and won 160 games in 7 seasons (and counting)

I say that because Pastner can, and most likely will, land on his feet with that on his resume.

go be an asst for Cal and UK, or Willis Wilson and TXAM-CC...Pastner needs to be a HC somewhere like Rice or Harvard where he can win 18-20 games, graduate kids, have a high APR, and that will be good enough for them...he's shown he can do that, and that will get him another HC gig some day.

What you really want to say is "I am upset that I was wrong about Pastner."

Dare I say you even sound a bit... Miserable.
