RE: some seem to delight in Pastner's fall...I do not
I don't delight in Pastner's fall, because he hasn't fallen anywhere. He's the same clown he was when we hired him. His inadequacies have just finally caught up to the program. Lots of people saw them even in the so called "good years" of his tenure. And lots of people ignored them or were too ignorant to see them. Unfortunately for CJP, his shortcomings as a coach have bubbled to the surface for everyone to see.

I have some delight in the fact that the people in power are finally being pushed to the point where they can't ignore how bad a coach he is no matter how good a human he may be. I am finally hopeful that they may be forced to find someone who can get the program back on track. I would take great delight in being able to root for a team that doesn't play the Pastner brand of AAU vomit offense, matador man defense, and soft zones that always leave the backdoor cut wide open. It would be nice to see some real basketball again.

Right.

Pastner hasn't fallen, the program has.

He's set to make $10.6 million no matter what happens, but if he and the University part ways, I imagine he will be employed somewhere else soon thereafter as well.

He hasn't fallen at all.

In fact, he's pretty set up for life at this point.

I'm not happy at all that Josh is having problems, he is a fine individual and I was vertical happy when he was named head coach. My thinking was his age would help him relate to the young men he would coach. Unfortunately it seems he has lost control of the program. I know he will do well with another program.

Look who started it.

A little empathy for a young man who looks in the mirror every morning and now has to question his ability to be successful at the only thing he's ever wanted to do with his life would be appropriate. It's not as if he set out to destroy the program. Any responsible manager I ever had took the attitude that if I failed the failure was more on them than me. He was set up to fail from the get go.

Pastner has taken Memphis to 4 NCAAs and an NIT...and won 160 games in 7 seasons (and counting)

I say that because Pastner can, and most likely will, land on his feet with that on his resume.

go be an asst for Cal and UK, or Willis Wilson and TXAM-CC...Pastner needs to be a HC somewhere like Rice or Harvard where he can win 18-20 games, graduate kids, have a high APR, and that will be good enough for them...he's shown he can do that, and that will get him another HC gig some day.

He couldn't get out of the 2nd round with junior and senior laden teams filled to the brim with top 50 recruits, what on earth gives you the idea he could win with players he could recruit to Rice or Harvard? He would be a total disaster at programs like that.

He is a much better coach today than he was the day we hired him. His best bet is to get a fresh start (away from negativity) with a head coaching job at a lower tier program and work his way back up. I will not be surprised to see him make some AD look pretty smart in the future.

Man, I have defended you on occasion, but this is literally one of the dumbest, most out of touch with reality posts I have ever read on this board (especially the bolded part).

What in the hell makes some of you people think THAT guy would win at some low level school with zero built in advantages like a Memphis program playing in CUSA?

Then, after going back to the drawing board and working his tail off in the D League, he ends up with an NBA Head Coaching gig.

Quin Snyder took Missouri to an Elite 8.

Josh couldn't hold Snyder's jock as a college coach.

Might as well face this guy just doesn't have what it takes to be a successful coach at this level. He would probably be a pretty good high school coach.

Nobody hates pastner. Those of us who love the Tigers hate the fact we are now nationally irrelevant in college basketball. We are at a very extreme low point and it could be another 5 years before that corner has turned.

It's just time for pastner to go. Those who saw it early know he should have been gone a few years ago.

Some of the same people who are calling him a bad coach and calling for him to be fired.....

Not that long ago those same people would berate and ridicule and openly ask mods to ban folks who criticized Pastner.

Things like "why do we allow trolls like this on the board....MODS?"

Now those same clowns finally realize what some of us have been saying for 3 or 4 years.

Hypocrites.

They could have had the decency to just throw in the towel and bail like some of the other Opie fluffers who just stopped posting when things really started going south. (I could name names, so many names)

I was banned for a year for what a lot of you people are saying now. I guess it's all about timing for those who make the decisions here.

Welcome to the party. I've been here a while and saved you a seat.
