Not a fluffer wish they fired him yesterday just know that he is getting 10.6 million regardless what they do to him but doing that stuff is going to hurt the search for someone decent coming here to replace him and doing something to players would kill recruiting for the future. If we do anything that you suggested it would be better for us to kill the program.

Not long ago people suggested killing the football program. Look where it is today.

Pastner is employable as a HC (or at least a high level assistant) at another program. If fired (and Memphis breaks his contract) he's required to "mitigate his damages" and go out and get another job. He can assumedly make anywhere from $600,000 to $1,000,000 as a coach, so we'll get that much credited yearly to the amount that we owe him.

It's still a large amount of money, but we have ways at chipping away at the total.

Can you explain, then, why Florida had to pay Will Muschamp's entire remaining contract (which had no mitigation clause in it) amount even though he got a job at Auburn a week later?

I think Weis was the same and Paul Hewitt as well. But all contracts are different. His could have a mitigation clause - though some here claim it doesn't. Also there's a thought that TN law requires mitigation if replacement employment is found.

Right. It's sunk cost at this point. So can we fund a replacement's salary? I'm sure donations/empty seats can cover a $1M salary for the next 4 years.

And how many TV pundits actually contribute to your personal viewing experience?

Josh Pastner is attractive and he sounds good while smiling even though his comments are cliched and empty. He could be ESPN's next Dick Vitale because all that guy is is a walking catchphrase.

He has a friend at ESPN in Jeff Goodman and a friend at CBS in Gary Parrish.

I agree. He can be like Steve Lavin. He for sure wouldn't be worse than a Seth Greenburg.

Opinions vary. He'd run out of material in about 2 games. Even at his best I couldn't stand to listen to him on the radio.

"Winning is hard"

"They've got good players and are well coached."

"If ____, ____, and _____ play good, _____ will win"

After he spins those hits, he'll be out of material. Can't see how he could make it 2 hours on TV. Maybe he could use his cue cards?

There is no offset clause in his contract. If he gets another job he just gets that much more money.

There is a commonlaw duty to mitigate in this State. It doesn't need to be in his contract, although my research is unclear on whether Tennessee is one of the States in which liquidated damages don't carry a duty to mitigate.

Florida is a different state than Tennessee with different contract laws, and Muschamp had a different contract than Pastner.

He's probably gonna either get a TV job or lowly assistant for $100 grand or less.

I don't think Cal was making much (relatively speaking) as an assistant with Larry Brown in Philly.

What were we paying Pastner as an assistant his last year? He can make AT LEAST that much as an assistant coach somewhere, or close to it.
