There's a Bowling Green in Ohio, too, but that's the next confer - er, state up.

It's a little west of the middle of the state: on I-65 some 66 miles north of Nashville.

(Bowling Green, Ohio, is on I-75 about 25 miles south of Toledo.)

Many thanks for the geography lesson.
I may make that trip after all. I didn't realize it was so close to Nashville.
I have a buddy in Murfreesboro I need to visit! It would make a great long weekend trip.

Before or after the game go to the Corvette Museum and the Corvette plant...better yet buy a Vette and take Museum delivery...a great experience and then you drive it home.

No, no, no. It would be MUCH better to play Army in the first game, because more practice in assignment football is a good thing. One huge advantage option teams have is that opponents have just one week to prepare.

Your remark that playing Western Kentucky will prepare Rice for Army is beyond comprehensible. Western Kentucky uses a totally different style of offense, and nothing in the way of defensive preparations for that game will be of any use whatsoever against Army.

We won't be favored to beat WKU. We have nothing to lose. I like that we get to work out all the kinks and break in the new quarterback before going to play Army, a game we must win. It also sets us up nice for a possible upset and then momentum going into Westpoint. Remember that WKU will be breaking in their own QB. Perhaps we catch them not at their best.

The only sure losses I see on the schedule are Baylor, Southern Miss, and Stanford. There are a couple others where we shouldn't be favored, but we have a puncher's chance.

How can it be a tough schedule when there are 8 CUSA games (bottom conference) and Army and PA&M as OOC? That's ten out of 12 games against the lower 50 FBS and 1 FCS team.

So, let's see here, we have 7 games against teams that failed to make the top 100 last year (per Massey), and we are debating whether we will finish 7-5, 6-6, or 5-7? What's wrong with that picture in year 10 of a coach's tenure?

Looks like 6-6. Although that doesn't include the one Bailiff per year where we'll lose to a Charlotte. So 5-7.
You see 5-7, I see 7-5.

I appreciate your point of view. But for this program at this point in time, it's a tough schedule. Baylor and Stanford are almost for sure losses. The downward performance spiral last year suggests that wins even against CUSA teams will be difficult. Most of us are hoping for a turn around. Even without wholesale coaching changes, I choose to be hopeful.

There have been zero coaching staff changes. The head coach is signaling that everything is going great.

I still want to know why JK said there would be upcoming changes and yet nothing has happened. Sounds like his "signature win" talk, all fluff.

Some posters are already saying that 7-5 is a significant/huge improvement over the year before.....

Set the bar low, this is what you get.

Agree completely, and even though we play in CUSA, no one here gives credit to the teams at the top of this conference (WKU, Marshall, LTU, MTSU, and USM). As "directional" as they are in name, they are still good teams, and we have to play three of them this season. I don't care what anybody says, we'll be doing well to win seven games this season. It'll be tough, but it can be done.

The absolute worst case scenario is a mild Bailiff turnaround where we muddle our way to 8 wins and the Bailiff Zealots start their amazing season talk with a new QB stuff and we get stuck with more Bailiff.

Unless he can beat Stanford and Baylor, anything short of that isn't really a turnaround and shouldn't be considered as such.

Bailiff is very good at doing just enough to not get fired. It's time the bar gets raised a lot higher

In the midst of all this "inspiring" discussion, the football season ticket renewal email arrived today.

I think some of the posters here may have had a hand in writing the email.

I give them credit for remaining positive.

Agree. It's tempting to react and continue the argument....But how many times do we have to kill this horse?

Until the horse finally dies for good. We have a few stupidity necromancers or something here that manage to periodically resurrect aforementioned stupidity.

Back to the topic on hand, 10 years in we should be looking at 10 wins. 8 games against the 2015 Worst Conference in FBS, one against Army and one against FCS PV-aTm

That conference was "the worst" partly because we were in it. Idk why you think we should be going undefeated in conference.

Just curious here. I think we all see wins against Prairie View and Charlotte. Two losses are Baylor and Stanford. Why aren't road games at Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky, and Southern Mississippi all losses, too? Are we thinking optimistically WKU will be a different team without their quarterback? They held onto their head coach.

So that leaves five toss-ups. North Texas and UTSA have new head coaches. UTEP had a coaching overhaul, too, and players back from injury. Army got better as the season went, and almost beat Navy. Florida Atlantic lost some tough games, and has a lot returning.

I look forward to what Dave Campbell predicts.

I think that Rice should be undefeated, not that this version of mediocre-Bailiff-Rice would be undefeated.

To clarify, a top tier school in a major city with a head coach employed for a decade should be looking at going undefeated against C-USA (which without Bailiff-Rice would probably be in the running for worst conference regardless)
