RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
UTSA got the safety Green, who flipped from L'ville. That was a nice get. I wish he was going to be in H'burg. USM was able to hold onto Jacques Turner, which was very important for Southern Miss. La Tech got a nice player in Mason, who I wish was heading to H'burg.

I hope McNair does well at UTSA. Hate it for him that it did not work out for him to be at Southern Miss. If he had graduated in December, he would have been a Golden Eagle.

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
I really like our class. We got 2 4-star transfers that are ready to play immediately. Detric Bing Dukes - LB (UGA and went to Juco before last season started because he didn't want to be redshirted) Brian Kimbrough - RB (Vandy under James Franklin)

We also got a Miami commit 3 star WR who flipped after Richt got hired. Another 3 star LB and such. We really address key needs and have added even more talent to the offense. We also got Ty Lee, a 3 star WR/Ath who was a last second flip. Tony Franklin has a lot of talent to work with. If you take away UAB since they aren't playing yet, we were no.2 on Rivals behind Marshall. I like the class along with what we're bringing back. One heck of an offseason for us. The season 7 months away though. :-(

RE: How Do You Grade Your Recruiting Class?
MT's class is solid, the 2 big services have us at 4th (247) and 3rd (Rivals) in CUSA.

The headliner is a JUCO that had originally signed with UGA. We lose a bunch of LB's so we'll see him early and often. We did particularly well at WR, where a guy was a Miami Hurricane verbal under Al Golden, but when Golden left he ended up here and a couple of other guys that had low level P5 offers and a bunch of G5 offers.

Stockstill has done a good job of creating a program where we don't really need to rely on freshman any given year, so a lot of those kids are destined for a redshirt. We have a few plug and play JUCO's. Most of the class had other FBS offers so not many anonymous projects.

Overall it's a solidly balanced class that should start to pay dividends here in year or two, I'd give it a B+ right now.

(02-04-2016 05:42 PM)Cr8n Wrote:  No clue. One of our 3 star kids dropped from a 3 to a low 2 soon as he signed with us. Shrug. We signed kids in key areas and so depth will hopefully not be an issue like it has been with 4 classes now recruited. But... overall? C? I guess? We got a lot of athletes and kids who could really play an position.

Cr8n is normally fairly astute in his observations and comments on ODU athletics, and I suspect he is once again reasonably accurate in his assessment. I, on the other hand, am always more optimistic on these types of questions, possibly allowing my fan bias to have a little too much influence.

My own observation is that this year's recruting class is solid, and as Coach Wilder puts it, well balanced, hitting positions of need on both sides of the ball. I have looked at all the hudl videos, and for the most part, I see size, speed, athleticism and potential across the board.

I will go with a B-, although I would not argue with a C+ or even Cr8n's C. Heck, you have to give this bunch a pretty good grade based only on the punter we signed. Talk about filling a need!

04-cheers I do tend to be just above the glass half full in my attitude. Never quite overly optimistic but never the sky is falling. That point in a bath when the water is just above room temp and you're like "I should get out" but hesitate.

But I do agree it's a balanced and addressed some key areas in desperate need of depth and the Punter would push it to a A++ if he performs as advertises. I could see it as a B for those reasons. =]

This is more of developmental class for Rice than we have seen in recent years. I expect only a handful to be able to make an immediate impact...in 2017. Otherwise this will be a good test for our S&C program. In 3-4 years this could be a good class for Rice, so B- for future impact but C- for immediate impact.

Only 6 3-star recruits in the class and an FBS ranking of around 100, I would say is a solid C.
